Watchable Wildlife Grants

The Watchable Wildlife Grants are administered by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and funded through the Nebraska Wildlife Conservation Fund. These grants aim to foster public appreciation and stewardship of Nebraska's natural resources by supporting projects that enhance wildlife viewing and nature-based experiences across the state. Projects should primarily focus on developing or improving opportunities for wildlife observation, particularly those with a positive impact on both wildlife and their habitats. Examples include developing viewing infrastructure, interpretive signage, wildlife events, and other forms of public engagement. However, completed projects, computers, software, and repeat-funded proposals are not eligible. Each application must include a Project Narrative Sheet, Budget Sheet, and a detailed project timeline. Applications will be evaluated based on several criteria: the project's value for wildlife observation, educational outreach, potential for broad participation, community integration, novelty, and long-term sustainability. Successful projects often include partnerships and demonstrate how the initiative will endure beyond the grant period. Applicants must also complete a required environmental review before initiating work. While there is no email confirmation of application receipt, applicants should prepare thoroughly before submission, as post-submission edits are not allowed. Final project selection depends on alignment with ranking criteria, readiness for implementation, and the extent to which the proposal contributes to public appreciation of Nebraska’s natural environment.
