The Fondation Centre Pompadour is a Vienna-based nonprofit organization founded in 2025 that is dedicated to promoting feminist agendas across diverse sectors including science, art, culture, media, and the broader public good. Structured under Section 34 of the Austrian Federal Fiscal Code (BAO), the foundation serves as a platform to support feminist-driven research, awareness, and communication efforts that challenge discrimination and promote gender equality in practical and theoretical contexts. Though headquartered in Austria, the foundation supports projects internationally, emphasizing inclusivity without restrictions based on geographic origin, gender identity, or age.
At the core of the foundation's mission is a commitment to feminist values that are transgenerational and globally minded. It seeks to fund initiatives that elevate feminist thought and representation, combat sexism and discrimination, and empower the self-determination and dignity of all individuals. The grant prioritizes work that fosters feminist perspectives on environmental, social, historical, educational, philosophical, and pacifist issues. The foundation values both academic and creative approaches, allowing room for a wide variety of disciplines and methodologies to be considered.
Each year, the foundation offers one grant of up to €30,000 to support an individual or a team conducting a project that aligns with these values. The grant is disbursed in two allotments over the course of one year. While the grant amount is fixed, it is the grantee’s responsibility to address any tax implications with their home country or affiliated institution. The foundation does not impose gender or nationality restrictions on applicants, emphasizing its dedication to inclusive, international collaboration.
The application process is structured in two stages. The first round requires a letter of intent including a brief description of the applicant, their curriculum vitae, and an outline of the proposed project. Successful candidates will be invited to the second round, during which they must submit a more detailed project proposal along with supporting documents. The foundation clearly states that proposals generated using artificial intelligence tools will not be considered.
For the 2026 grant cycle, the deadline for first-round submissions is February 28, 2026. Second-round materials must be submitted by March 31, 2026. Although only one grant is awarded annually, the foundation's structure implies this is a recurring opportunity with similar timelines each year. The foundation board, composed of prominent feminist figures, oversees the application process and ensures that the values and mission of the organization are upheld throughout the selection and funding lifecycle. All awarded projects must credit the Fondation Centre Pompadour in related communications and publicity materials.
