Blue Impact Grant
This funding opportunity supports nonprofit organizations in Texas that are focused on improving community health and wellness by addressing social determinants of health through various targeted initiatives.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX), with a legacy of over 95 years, is deeply invested in improving the health and wellbeing of Texas residents. As a leading private health insurer, BCBSTX collaborates with a broad range of partners—community organizations, leaders, and policymakers—to fund impactful programs that address critical community needs. Their philanthropic approach includes traditional grants, sponsorships, and their signature Blue Impact grant program, each managed under the oversight of the BCBSTX Community Investments Committee. The Blue Impact grants are the flagship of BCBSTX’s community investments, designed to foster sustainable improvements in health and human services across Texas. These grants support nonprofit organizations operating programs in five key focus areas: economic opportunity and stability, nutrition, neighborhood and built environment, locally defined health solutions, and optimal health outcomes. Priority is given to initiatives addressing barriers to employment, reducing hunger, promoting affordable housing and transportation, and improving access to healthcare services such as immunizations, behavioral health, and maternal care. Organizations seeking support through Blue Impact must be Texas-based 501(c)(3) nonprofits with demonstrated financial capacity—defined as maintaining a current annual budget of $2 million or more—and sufficient staff to manage the proposed projects. Requests from individuals, for tuition, political or religious activities, and other excluded purposes will not be considered. Only one type of support—grant or sponsorship—is allowed per organization in any cycle, and sponsorships do not require nonprofit status. The application process involves a two-step procedure. First, a Letter of Intent (LOI) must be submitted during the initial window from January 20, 2025, through February 10, 2025. If selected, applicants are invited to submit a full application between March 13 and March 28, 2025. Applications must align clearly with the focus areas and demonstrate measurable community impact in Texas. All funding proposals are reviewed by the Community Investments Committee, which evaluates them based on alignment with strategic focus areas and organizational capacity. Successful applicants are notified following the close of the application window, with funding allocated based on available resources and impact potential. The program is offered annually, allowing organizations to plan and prepare for future cycles if not selected in the current round. This funding initiative reflects BCBSTX’s broader commitment to supporting health equity and community-driven solutions throughout Texas. All funding decisions are guided by a strong emphasis on measurable outcomes and sustainable community benefit.
