Artist Projects Grant

The Artist Projects grant program is administered by the Greater Columbus Arts Council, a local arts funding organization based in Columbus, Ohio. Funding is provided in the form of project-based awards, with most artists eligible to request up to 10000 dollars and a limited number of filmmakers eligible for up to 25000 dollars. Approximately seventy five standard awards and ten film awards are expected. Funds must be used for project-related expenses occurring after the award date and must include compensation for artists involved in the project, including the applicant if applicable. The program does not allow reimbursement for expenses incurred prior to the award and requires that all funds be reinvested into the project rather than generating profit. Eligibility is restricted to working artists aged eighteen or older who can demonstrate a consistent artistic practice and public engagement. Applicants must reside in Franklin County or qualifying surrounding areas, with the requirement that project activities take place within Franklin County. Applicants must not be undergraduate students and must agree to remain in the region for at least one year following the award. Certain creative professions such as influencers, producers, commercial photographers, and others focused on non artistic production roles are excluded. Projects must be independently initiated and cannot overlap with other funded organizational programming. The application process is conducted through an online portal and requires submission of a project description, timeline, budget, and supporting materials such as artistic resumes and work samples. Work samples must adhere to strict formatting and page limits and must demonstrate recent artistic activity. Applicants must also provide detailed responses describing the concept, innovation, community engagement, and expected outcomes of the project. Budgets must clearly show artist compensation and may include projected income sources if applicable. Applications are reviewed through a multi stage process that includes an initial eligibility screening followed by panel review and a community based evaluation process. Community reviewers score applications based on artistic merit, feasibility, innovation, and public benefit. Final funding decisions are approved by the council’s board of trustees. Notification timelines are specified for each application round, and awarded projects must adhere to defined start and completion dates. The program operates on a recurring annual cycle with two application rounds each year. Round one opens in February and closes in March, while round two opens in July and closes in August. Award notifications occur approximately two months after each deadline, and projects must be completed within a defined period extending into the following year. Final reports are required within thirty days of project completion, and compliance with reporting and contractual obligations is necessary for future eligibility.
