Grant Description

The Conservation Partnership Grant Program provides financial assistance for qualified 501(c)(3) organizations and conservation districts in Massachusetts to acquire land or conservation restrictions for conservation or recreation purposes. It also supports eligible due diligence costs for donated land or conservation restrictions, with the goal of expanding outdoor recreation, conserving open space and natural resources, and supporting climate resilience. Eligible projects include purchase of land or perpetual conservation restrictions, conversion of term-limited restrictions to permanent restrictions, and due diligence costs tied to qualifying gifts of land or conservation restrictions. Funded properties must be intended to be held in perpetuity and provide appropriate public access. The program excludes certain already protected lands and some development-priority areas, and agricultural land conversion may require mitigation to remain eligible. Awards are provided on a reimbursement basis and require applicants to document at least 50 percent of total project costs from non-state sources. Contracts must expend all eligible project costs by June 30, 2027 to qualify for reimbursement.
