Organization Art Project Grant
This funding opportunity supports nonprofit organizations, schools, and tribal governments in Minnesota's Arrowhead region to create and present meaningful arts projects that benefit their communities.
The Art Project Grant, administered by the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council (ARAC), offers financial support of up to $5,000 to organizations located within the Arrowhead Region of Minnesota. This initiative seeks to fund high-impact art activities that are both meaningful to the applicant organization and beneficial to the broader community. The grant is open to both general art projects and those centered on arts education. Eligible project types include, but are not limited to, the creation, performance, or exhibition of artistic works; hosting of arts events such as festivals and workshops; and non-academic arts education programming that encourages creative skill development. The program is designed to prioritize accessibility and inclusivity, encouraging applications from organizations serving diverse demographics including BIPOC communities, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA2+ individuals, military veterans, and people aged 65 and older. Arts education activities are encouraged, provided they do not offer academic credit or replace previously state-funded activities. Although there is no preferential scoring for arts education projects, a portion of grant funds is reserved for such initiatives. Organizations applying must be based in one of seven counties (Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, or St. Louis) or one of four Tribal Nations (Bois Forte, Fond du Lac, Grand Portage, Leech Lake District I). Additionally, applicants must have resided in the region for at least six months before the deadline and must maintain residency for the entire grant period. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits and unincorporated arts groups working with an approved fiscal sponsor. Ineligible applicants include for-profit entities, organizations receiving direct state appropriations, or those with unresolved compliance issues with ARAC. Projects must adhere to civil rights and accessibility laws and should avoid restricted uses of funds, which include capital improvements (unless related to ADA compliance), ongoing space costs, and any AI-generated artistic content. Administrative AI use is permitted but discouraged. Marketing expenditures are capped at 50% of the total request. Prohibited activities also include fundraising, proselytization, and partisan political efforts. Applications open on February 2, 2026, and must be submitted via the ARAC's online grant management system (Foundant) by March 15, 2026, at 11:59 PM. Applicants may seek advisement or technical support up to ten business days before the deadline. After submission, applications undergo a two- to three-week eligibility review, followed by a panel review occurring April 20–30, 2026. Award notifications are sent the week of May 21, 2026. Projects may begin as early as July 1, 2026, and must be completed by June 30, 2027. Final reports and documentation must be retained for three years post-completion. The grant is part of a consolidated funding program and is supported by appropriations from the Minnesota State Legislature through the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund of the Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment. Funding allocations are reviewed by ARAC’s Board of Directors, following panel review and scoring. Three categories—first-time applicants, projects serving priority demographics, and applicants from underfunded rural areas—are eligible for additional scoring consideration.
