Get Moving Grant
This funding opportunity provides up to $15,000 for individuals, organizations, and small businesses to create innovative recreational programs that promote physical activity and community engagement in Seattle.
The Get Moving Grant, administered by Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) through funding from the Seattle Municipal Park District, is designed to expand access to culturally relevant physical activity programs across Seattle. The initiative supports small-scale, community-centered efforts to promote wellness and recreation among underserved populations in neighborhoods experiencing significant health disparities. The grant offers up to $15,000 per project to individuals, community groups, nonprofit organizations, and small businesses with annual gross revenue under $150,000. This is a reimbursement-based grant, meaning recipients receive funding after successfully completing the program and submitting all required documentation and invoices. Eligible projects must occur within the Seattle city limits, serve one or more identified priority populations—such as people of color, Indigenous communities, immigrants and refugees, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people with disabilities—and be located in designated priority neighborhoods or community sites as outlined in Appendix A of the program guidelines. Programs must be physically active in nature, conducted in person, and free to the public. Participation in the citywide Big Day of Play on August 16, 2025, is a mandatory requirement for all Get Moving grantees. The grant application window opens on January 14, 2025, at 8:00 AM PST and closes on February 11, 2025, at 11:59 PM PST. Applications must be submitted through the GO Smart portal. A panel of community reviewers will evaluate applications based on capacity, community impact, outreach strategy, staffing, and alignment with health equity goals. Funding notifications are expected approximately four weeks after the review period begins. The contract process, which includes submission of required documents such as W-9 forms, insurance certificates, and background checks, must be completed before programming can begin. All funded projects must be completed by December 7, 2025. Allowable uses for funds include staffing, program supplies, marketing, insurance, translation services, equipment rental, and a limited amount for food and participant incentives. Funds cannot be used for general overhead, unrestricted gifts, staff travel, or personnel benefits. Grantees are required to track detailed participant data and complete both mid-project and final reporting requirements. Failure to fulfill grant obligations may affect future eligibility. Information sessions will be held both virtually and in person in January and February to help applicants understand the program. SPR provides extensive support to help awardees meet contracting, marketing, and reporting requirements. The grant aligns with SPR’s broader mission to promote healthy people, thriving environments, and equitable access to recreational opportunities for all Seattle residents.
