Mildred's Dream Foundation Grant Program
This grant provides financial support to community-based nonprofit organizations that deliver essential services in education, domestic violence prevention, and physical and mental health for underserved populations.
The Mildred's Dream Foundation Grant Program is a private philanthropic funding opportunity designed to support community-based nonprofit organizations that align with the foundation’s mission-driven priorities. Mildred's Dream Foundation focuses its giving on three core areas: education for children with an emphasis on access, diversity, and inclusion; violence prevention and survivor support, particularly addressing domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking, and abuse; and programs addressing physical and mental health challenges. The foundation aims to fund initiatives that directly serve vulnerable populations and produce measurable community impact. This grant program provides financial support for specific programs or projects rather than general organizational funding. Applicants may request funding for initiatives that deliver direct services or expand programming aligned with one of the foundation’s focus areas. While limited operational expenses are allowed, no more than 20 percent of the requested funds may be used for general operating costs, and certain expenses such as rent, utilities, office supplies, taxes, and insurance are explicitly excluded. Staff salaries may be included only if they are essential to program delivery or expansion. The foundation prioritizes projects where its funding can represent a meaningful portion of the total program budget, typically up to 10 percent. Eligible applicants must be nonprofit organizations recognized under section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code and must have been in operation for at least one year prior to the application deadline. Organizations must demonstrate that they provide direct services, programming, or advocacy within one of the specified focus areas. Additional eligibility conditions include restrictions on organizations that have received funding for three consecutive years in certain categories, requiring them to take a one-year break before reapplying. Organizations that received funding in the previous year must submit a required impact or progress report by a specified deadline to remain eligible. The application process is conducted through an online platform, where applicants must complete a detailed submission that includes organizational information, program descriptions, evaluation plans, and financial documentation. Required supporting materials include a completed budget workbook outlining both organizational and program-specific finances, the organization’s most recent IRS Form 990, and a copy of the IRS determination letter confirming nonprofit status. The application also requires detailed responses regarding program objectives, expected outcomes, evaluation methodologies, partnerships, and long-term sustainability strategies. The review and selection process is managed by the foundation’s grant committee, which evaluates applications based on alignment with funding priorities, strength of the proposed program, clarity of impact, and overall feasibility. Applicants are encouraged to present clear, measurable outcomes and to demonstrate how relatively modest funding levels can create meaningful change. The committee places particular emphasis on clarity, accessibility of language, and the ability to communicate both data and narrative effectively. For the 2026 cycle, the application period opens on May 18 and closes on July 17 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time, after which submissions are no longer accepted. Following the review period, applicants will be notified of funding decisions by October 1. Funds are expected to be distributed before January 1 of the following year, and grantees are required to submit an impact report within six months of receiving funding. The foundation also provides guidance and encourages applicants to align closely with its mission, clearly articulate impact, and provide specific, measurable program outcomes to strengthen their proposals.
