Community Services Support Grant

The City of Carpinteria Community Services Support Grant (CSSG) program is a municipal funding initiative administered by the City of Carpinteria to support nonprofit organizations that provide essential services and programs to local residents. The program is aligned with the City Council’s strategic priorities and is designed to enhance the quality of life within the community through targeted investments in social services, community development, and civic engagement. Funds are restricted to direct project expenses and cannot be used for debt repayment, legal issues, most capital improvements, non essential travel or hospitality, or long term savings. Applicants must clearly outline how requested funds will be used within the proposed scope of work. Any modifications to the approved scope during the funding period require written approval from the Assistant City Manager. Eligibility for the program is limited to organizations that can demonstrate nonprofit status under section 501(c)(3) or have an eligible fiscal sponsor. Applicants must be headquartered in or have a significant operational presence in Santa Barbara County and must primarily serve Carpinteria residents. Organizations are required to show financial stability, the capacity to manage grant funds responsibly, and alignment with City strategic goals. Additional requirements may include background checks for staff and volunteers working with vulnerable populations, in compliance with California law. The application process requires submission of a completed grant application form along with supporting documentation, including proof of nonprofit status and a valid business license with the City of Carpinteria. The application includes sections on organizational information, financial data, mission alignment, community impact, governance structure, and a detailed scope of work. Applications may be submitted via email, mail, or in person to the City. The review process is conducted by City staff and the Finance Committee, who evaluate proposals based on funding availability, program effectiveness, alignment with City priorities, and demonstrated community impact. The funding cycle for this program runs from July 1 through June 30 of the following year. For the current cycle, applications are accepted between July 1 and July 31, with a submission deadline of July 31 before 12:00 PM Pacific Time. Following submission, applications are reviewed in August, and award notifications are sent via email. Agreements are finalized in September, and funded organizations may be required to submit progress reports and participate in City Council presentations depending on award size. The program operates on an annual cycle, indicating recurring funding opportunities each fiscal year.
