Green Communities Competitive Grant Program

The Green Communities Competitive Grant Program provides Massachusetts funding for designated Green Communities to construct and implement energy efficiency, renewable energy, and building decarbonization projects. Applicants may seek funding for the construction and implementation of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and building decarbonization projects through prescriptive measures, traditional energy conservation measures, and related clean energy activities. Eligible work includes variable Frequency Drives (VFDs); Walk-in Refrigeration Controls; Door and Window Weather-Stripping; Window Replacements; Workforce Development; Light-duty Hybrid (HEVs) or Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles (PHEVs); Light-duty Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs); Purchase of Medium- or Heavy-duty Battery Electric Vehicles; Electric Vehicle Charging Stations; Battery-powered Lawn Care & Landscaping Equipment; LED Lighting; LED Streetlights; Energy Conservation Measures; Proposed, or already installed, lighting control equipment; Building envelope improvements including storm windows, window inserts, added insulation and air sealing; HVAC improvements including heat pumps, energy recovery ventilation, and repairs or replacement of non-heating HVAC equipment; Water heaters using air-source heat pump, solar thermal, or tankless electric; Building control systems that are open-source; Retro-commissioning; Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS); Repairs to Existing Renewable Energy Systems; Energy Star-rated commercial refrigeration; Other Energy Efficiency Projects.
