Treacy Foundation Grant Program

The Treacy Foundation is a private 501(c)(3) foundation whose geographic area of interest is Montana. Its grantmaking supports capital campaigns, capital asset improvements, and maintenance. The Foundation provides a distinct submission pathway based on the amount requested. Following receipt of the Letter of Intent, the Foundation determines whether the applicant will be invited to submit a full grant application. The Foundation requires grant seekers to have raised a minimum of 50 percent of the total project cost, either in hand or committed, before submitting an application. The Foundation specifically explains that meeting this threshold does not mean it will fund the remaining 50 percent. Instead, the requirement demonstrates project viability and establishes a threshold for consideration. The Foundation will not award grants for pass-through grants, operating expenses or salaries, travel or meals, political organizations, candidates or campaigns, non-charitable organizations, grants or loans to individuals, debt reduction, electronics, vehicles, or projects where the applicant does not own the facility, building, or property involved. The full application requests organization information and information about the proposed project. Applicants identify the type of request, with examples including Capital Campaign, Bricks/Mortar, Matching/Challenge, Pledge, and Multi-year, and state the requested amount. Multi-year requests must identify the number of years and the amount requested each year, while matching or challenge requests must specify the match amount. Applicants must describe how grant funds will be used, provide a brief description of organizational history and mission, explain project goals and objectives, describe the project's current status, and explain the changes expected if the project is funded and what those changes will mean for the organization's future. Applicants must also state whether the project will generate its own revenue. Applicants must describe their fundraising plan for completing the project, including current funds raised and in hand, outstanding funding requests, and the remaining amount needed. The application identifies potential sources of project support including board support, in-kind donations, loans, volunteer support, fundraising events, corporate or private donors, and government funding. Applicants must also disclose whether they have previously applied to or received funding from the Treacy Foundation and, if so, provide the date and amount of prior funding. A list of board members must be provided when applicable. Required financial documentation includes a project budget showing total project cost, current funds raised and in hand, outstanding funding requests, and the remaining funding need; Balance Sheets and Profit and Loss statements for the two most recent fiscal years covering the same reporting periods; and an IRS 501(c)(3) Tax Verification letter. Tax-exempt governmental entities or agencies may instead submit a letter verifying public status.
