City of Olathe Heathy Neighborhood Grants
This program provides funding to Olathe residents for community-building activities and neighborhood improvement projects that enhance safety and quality of life.
The City of Olathe's Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative (HNI) is designed to promote strong, vibrant, and healthy communities by supporting neighborhood engagement and improvements. With a firm belief that all residents deserve to live in safe and welcoming environments, the initiative aims to provide resources and support to enhance the quality of life for all neighborhood members. Through its Neighborhood Grants program, the City of Olathe encourages community-led initiatives that foster engagement, beautification, and local pride. To qualify, neighborhood groups must be officially registered with the City through its Neighborhood Registration Program. Registration allows neighborhoods to remain informed and connected while also making them eligible for funding opportunities. The grants support projects that directly benefit the entire neighborhood and are feasible to complete within one year. Two types of funding opportunities are available: the Community Engagement Grant, which provides up to $2,000 to support activities that bring neighbors together, and the Neighborhood Beautification and Improvement Grant, which offers up to $4,000 for physical improvements that enhance the neighborhood environment. Projects must be broadly beneficial and not focused on individual households. Certain expenses are excluded, including land or building purchases, ongoing operating costs such as rent, alcohol purchases, and events that primarily serve individual households. Limited funding for food and beverages is allowable, up to 75% of the award. Applications are accepted year-round with quarterly deadlines on February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1. Voluntary neighborhood organizations that do not charge membership dues are eligible to apply once per year, while formal Homeowner Associations (HOAs) that collect dues may apply once every two years. This cadence ensures equitable access to funding across different types of neighborhood groups. To maintain eligibility for future funding, recipients must submit a Final Report within one year of receiving their award. This report includes visual documentation and a summary of the project’s impact. Failure to complete the reporting requirements may disqualify the neighborhood from future consideration. All applications and reports are managed through the City of Olathe’s Planning Division. The Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to fostering inclusive, connected, and aesthetically pleasing neighborhoods for its residents.
