Grant Description

The Amphibian Conservation Fund is administered by Stiftung Artenschutz, a Germany based species conservation foundation that collaborates with zoo associations, zoological institutions, and private stakeholders across the German speaking region. The fund was established in response to the significant global decline in amphibian populations, which are among the most threatened vertebrate groups worldwide. Stiftung Artenschutz manages the fund on behalf of its funding partners and allocates resources with their input, following internationally recognized conservation standards such as those developed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and its Species Survival Commission. The primary purpose of the Amphibian Conservation Fund is to support both direct and indirect conservation measures that contribute to improving the status of threatened amphibian species. The program prioritizes projects that can clearly demonstrate a measurable positive impact on conservation outcomes. Eligible conservation targets include species categorized as Critically Endangered, Endangered, or Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. Projects addressing Data Deficient or Not Evaluated species may also be considered when there is a justified need to assess conservation status or risk. Funding supports a broad range of conservation activities. These include direct species protection interventions, habitat conservation and restoration, scientific research with clear conservation relevance, conservation breeding and reintroduction initiatives, and monitoring and evaluation. Additional supported activities include capacity building, training of local stakeholders, and education and awareness campaigns that contribute to long term conservation impact. All project costs directly tied to implementation such as equipment, transportation, and staffing are eligible, provided they are proportionate and justified relative to the overall project scope. There are important restrictions associated with the funding. Projects must not be located in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, or Australia. Additionally, proposals that could negatively affect local or indigenous communities are not eligible. The fund is designed for relatively small scale projects, with a recommended maximum funding request of 5000 euros. Projects are expected to be completed within a 12 month timeframe, and funds must be used within that period unless prior approval for an extension is granted. The application process requires submission of a full proposal using the official forms provided by Stiftung Artenschutz. Applications must be completed in English, with exceptions for German in limited cases. Required components include a completed proposal form, budget form, an up to date curriculum vitae, documentation confirming the legal status of the applying organization, and a reference letter submitted independently by a qualified referee. Applications are submitted via email and must comply with all provided proposal guidelines, which outline detailed expectations for project design, methodology, budget justification, and stakeholder engagement. The application deadline for the current cycle is July 31, 2026 at 23:59 CET. After submission, proposals are evaluated by a team of independent reviewers, and final funding decisions are made by a selection committee by mid November. Successful applicants are notified thereafter, and funding agreements are executed before disbursement, typically by the end of the calendar year. Funded projects must adhere to strict reporting requirements, including interim and final reports, financial documentation, and supporting media for communication purposes. This grant opportunity is recurring annually, providing ongoing support for amphibian conservation initiatives globally outside restricted countries.
