The Mass Save Community Education Grant is an initiative spearheaded by the Sponsors of Mass Save to enhance energy efficiency literacy and access across Massachusetts communities. This funding opportunity is designed to support the development and implementation of energy education programs that are inclusive, community-based, and culturally relevant. The program's overarching aim is to engage local organizations and residents in meaningful ways that promote equitable access to energy efficiency initiatives, reduce energy burden, and decrease carbon footprints across the state. This grant program prioritizes outreach in Designated Equity Communities and encourages applicants to focus on serving priority populations including renters, landlords, English-isolated residents, income-eligible individuals, and K-12 students. Eligible applicants include community-based organizations, 501(c)(3) nonprofits, civic associations, neighborhood councils, and K-12 agencies. Groups working with a fiscal agent are also eligible to apply. A strong emphasis is placed on applicants demonstrating a clear commitment to outreach and engagement efforts that align with the goals outlined in the application process. Award amounts range from $5,000 to $25,000 per year, depending on the scale and scope of the proposed project. Funding is distributed in two cycles and is intended to support direct project costs related to educational and outreach efforts. In addition to financial support, selected grantees will receive a suite of non-monetary resources such as Mass Save branded collateral, planning support for local events, pre-recorded training from energy efficiency experts, and account management support from utility companies to identify energy-saving opportunities in municipal buildings. Participation in the grant program includes a number of commitments from grantees. These include collaborating with participating Mass Save Sponsors, tracking and reporting progress, engaging in monthly calls, and submitting detailed outreach reports. A formal program progress evaluation will also take place during the one-year grant period to assess outcomes and inform continued engagement. Applications will be reviewed in the first quarter of 2026. Although all Massachusetts-based applicants are welcome, priority will be given to programs serving environmental justice communities and priority populations. An informational session about the application process is scheduled for January 27, 2026, from noon to 1:00 p.m. Interested individuals should contact MassSave@need.org to participate.
