Grant Description

The Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative is a corporate philanthropic grant program administered by Yamaha Motor Corp, USA, designed to support responsible outdoor recreation and land access across the United States. The initiative reflects Yamaha’s broader commitment to outdoor enthusiasts who rely on off-highway vehicles for activities such as riding, camping, hunting, and fishing. Through this program, Yamaha aims to promote safe and sustainable recreational practices while supporting conservation and public land access. The program is funded and managed internally by Yamaha, with awards determined at the company’s sole discretion based on project quality, community benefit, and alignment with program goals. The primary purpose of the grant is to provide practical, project-based support for efforts that improve, protect, and expand access to land for motorized off-road recreation. This includes initiatives that promote environmental stewardship, educate the public on responsible land use, and enhance infrastructure that enables safe and sustainable outdoor activities. Eligible projects must demonstrate a clear benefit to the off-highway vehicle community and align with Yamaha’s mission to balance recreation with conservation and land management best practices. Funding may be used for a wide range of project types, including trail development, restoration, and maintenance; installation of signage and mapping systems; staging area improvements; safety and education programs; and conservation efforts such as habitat protection and land management. Additional eligible uses include equipment rental, contractor services, and materials necessary to complete approved projects. However, the program explicitly prohibits the use of funds for purchasing Yamaha vehicles, and it places lower priority on requests involving staff salaries, heavy equipment purchases, lobbying efforts, or facilities that do not directly impact OHV access. Eligibility is limited to U.S.-based nonprofit or tax-exempt organizations, including clubs, associations, land conservation groups, and public land management entities at the local, state, or federal level. Applicants must provide documentation verifying their nonprofit or tax-exempt status, along with financial records such as a recent tax return or financial statement. Government agencies are exempt from financial documentation requirements but must submit a letter of support from a senior official. All applicants are required to include an endorsement letter from a local Yamaha dealer demonstrating familiarity with the project and its anticipated benefits. The application process is structured around quarterly submission cycles. Applications may be submitted online, via email, or by mail, but must be complete and include all required documentation to be considered. The review committee evaluates submissions on a quarterly basis, and applicants may reapply in subsequent quarters if not initially selected. Only one grant may be awarded per organization per calendar year. Submission deadlines occur four times annually, with final postmark dates corresponding to the end of each quarter. Applicants must also consider how Yamaha branding will be incorporated into funded projects and are required to submit progress reports every six months until project completion. These reports must include financial accounting, documentation of activities, and photographic evidence. Yamaha uses these reports for both evaluation and promotional purposes. Additionally, applicants may be asked to contribute “Where to Ride” information, including maps and descriptions of legal riding areas, which Yamaha may publish with permission. For questions or assistance, applicants may contact the program via phone at 1-877-OHV-TRAIL or by email at OHVAccess@yamaha-motor.com. Applications are reviewed quarterly, and award decisions are communicated following each cycle. The program operates on a recurring annual basis with consistent quarterly deadlines, making it a reliable funding source for organizations engaged in outdoor recreation and land access initiatives.
