Fund for Reno County Grants
This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations and local government entities in Reno County, Kansas, for innovative projects that enhance community culture, support youth development, foster community engagement, and strengthen local nonprofits.
The Fund for Reno County is an unrestricted grantmaking initiative administered by the Hutchinson Community Foundation, a philanthropic organization established to serve the evolving needs of Reno County, Kansas. Since its founding in 1989, the fund has operated as a permanent community resource, enabling the Foundation to respond flexibly to emerging challenges and opportunities. Over time, it has distributed more than $6.3 million to community-based organizations, supporting a wide range of projects that enhance quality of life, strengthen local systems, and foster resilience across the county. The purpose of the grant program is to support innovative, community-driven projects that align with specific impact areas identified through community engagement and strategic planning. For the 2026 funding year, the Foundation has organized its grantmaking into two distinct impact cycles, each with targeted focus areas. These include Community and Economic Development, Community Catalyst, Strong Organizations, Dynamic Culture, and Thriving Kids. Each category is designed to address different dimensions of community well-being, such as workforce development, arts and culture, youth services, and organizational capacity building. Funding is intended to support both new initiatives and enhancements to existing programs, particularly those that demonstrate collaboration, innovation, and measurable community impact. Eligible uses of funds include project-based activities such as strategic planning, program expansion, community engagement efforts, infrastructure improvements, and capacity-building initiatives. However, certain expenditures are explicitly prohibited, including political activities, lobbying, deficit financing, religious indoctrination, event sponsorships, and reimbursement for expenses incurred prior to award. The program does not require a cost-sharing or matching contribution, allowing organizations to focus on project execution without additional financial burden. Eligibility is limited to organizations that are recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and that serve Reno County. Government entities and special-purpose units may also apply for innovative projects. Organizations without nonprofit status may participate by securing a fiscal sponsor that meets eligibility requirements. All applicants must comply with applicable nondiscrimination laws. Proposals from individuals or ineligible entities will not be considered. Applications must be submitted electronically through the Foundant Grant Lifecycle Manager system. Applicants are required to create a profile and complete the online submission process. While there is no formal pre-application requirement, applicants—particularly those applying under the Strong Organizations category—are encouraged or required to consult with Foundation staff prior to submission. The application process may include narrative responses, budget documentation, and supporting materials that demonstrate project feasibility, need, and alignment with funding priorities. The 2026 grant cycle includes two primary submission windows. Impact Cycle 1 accepted proposals from December 17, 2025 through February 13, 2026, while Impact Cycle 2 accepts proposals from June 1 through August 7, 2026. Funding decisions are made by a grants committee composed of community volunteers, and applicants are notified of award decisions within approximately six weeks following each deadline. Successful applicants must enter into a grant agreement, participate in required events, and complete both interim and final reports documenting project outcomes. The program operates on an annual cycle, with recurring opportunities expected in future years based on similar timelines.
