Humanities For All Grants
This grant provides funding to Kansas-based nonprofits for public projects that promote history, literature, and culture, engaging adults in meaningful conversations and storytelling.
The Humanities For All Grants program, administered by Humanities Kansas, supports public-facing projects rooted in the humanities disciplines such as history, literature, cultural studies, and related fields. The primary goal is to spark meaningful conversations about the human experience while promoting democratic engagement through dynamic and inclusive storytelling. These grants enable organizations to develop public programs that are grounded in scholarship and community relevance. Grants support a wide range of formats including interpretive exhibitions, community conversations, panel discussions, presentations, book discussions, short films, and podcasts. All projects must engage adult, out-of-school audiences and be designed to encourage interaction and reflection. Creativity and innovation in delivery are welcomed, and projects may be conducted in-person, online, or through hybrid formats. Eligibility is limited to nonprofit organizations based in Kansas, including public libraries and cultural institutions, even if they do not have 501(c)(3) status. A Unique Entity ID (UEID) from SAM.gov is required, though full registration is not. Organizations with an open grant from a prior cycle are ineligible until that grant is closed. Applications must include humanities scholars who play an active role in project development and execution, and all proposals must outline clear goals, a detailed timeline, budget, and a strategy for public engagement and communications. Each project must include a cost share equal to or greater than the amount requested. This can include staff time, volunteer contributions, in-kind services, and facility use. While indirect costs are allowed (up to 15% if no NICRA is held), grant funds may not be used for full-time staff salaries, long-form films, book publishing, performances, or activities that advocate for specific political or ideological agendas. In 2025, application deadlines are February 28, May 16, and October 3, with optional draft deadlines approximately four weeks prior. Final applications must be submitted online by 11:59 PM on the due date. Funding decisions are communicated about a month later, and projects may begin shortly afterward. The maximum grant amount is $15,000 per project, with additional accessibility funds available. As of the current date, the Humanities For All Grants program is officially suspended until further notice due to the termination of funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities and Humanities Kansas. Applicants are encouraged to check back for updates or contact info@humanitieskansas.org or 785-357-0359 with questions.
