The Buy Local Grant Program supports Massachusetts Buy Local campaigns that strengthen the marketing potential of agricultural businesses and agricultural products in western, central, northeastern, and southeastern Massachusetts. Funded projects are intended to expand local purchasing and recognition of Massachusetts agriculture, including regionally appropriate locally harvested seafood where applicable. Projects must advance at least one required objective such as increasing farmers’ cash receipts from local sales or increasing recognition of Massachusetts agriculture through regional collaboration. The program also encourages work such as educational workshops and technical assistance, support for SNAP and HIP acceptance at farmers’ markets and farm stands, grant writing training for agricultural businesses, regional partnership development, and initiatives that improve equitable access to nutritious, preferably local and culturally relevant food. Eligible applicants are Massachusetts Buy Local nonprofit organizations with at least two years of experience expanding consumer purchasing of locally grown or produced products in the Commonwealth. Proof of nonprofit status is required, and contracts run through June 30, 2027.
