World Class Grooming Career Development Grant
This grant provides financial support and mentorship opportunities for early- to mid-career grooms in the equine industry, helping them advance their skills and careers in Olympic disciplines like Dressage, Jumping, and Eventing.
The World Class Grooming Career Development Grant is offered by the Aiken Horse Park Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting equestrian sport and education. This initiative was established to recognize the critical role that professional grooms play in the equine industry, particularly at elite levels of competition. Grooms are responsible for the daily care, conditioning, and performance readiness of horses, yet often face financial and logistical barriers to accessing advanced professional development opportunities. This grant seeks to address those barriers by investing in emerging talent within the grooming profession and fostering the next generation of high-performance equine professionals. The primary purpose of the grant is to provide financial assistance and structured mentorship opportunities to individuals pursuing careers as international-level grooms in Olympic disciplines, specifically Dressage, Jumping, and Eventing. The program emphasizes immersive, hands-on learning experiences in elite equestrian environments, where recipients can work alongside experienced grooms, barn managers, and athletes. Through this exposure, participants are expected to develop advanced horsemanship skills, professionalism, and a sustainable long-term career trajectory within the equine industry. Grant funds are restricted to specific allowable uses that directly support the recipient’s professional development. These include travel expenses, housing costs, and educational expenses such as clinics, horsemanship lessons, and participation in mentor-mentee programs. The funding is intended to facilitate access to high-quality training environments and mentorship experiences that would otherwise be financially inaccessible. All awarded funds must be utilized within one calendar year of receipt, and recipients are required to provide a full accounting of expenditures, including receipts, within ninety days following the completion of the funding period. Eligibility for the grant is narrowly defined to target early- to mid-career professionals in the grooming field. Applicants must be between the ages of 23 and 35 at the time of application, have a minimum of three years of experience in the equine grooming industry, and be currently employed or interning in an equine-related role such as a groom or barn manager. Additionally, applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents and must not have previously groomed at major international competitions such as the Olympic Games or World Championships. Candidates must also demonstrate a clear commitment to advancing their careers within one of the three Olympic equestrian disciplines. The application process requires submission of a completed application form along with supporting materials, including up to three letters of recommendation. One recommendation must come from a current or former employer with direct knowledge of the applicant’s experience, while the remaining references must be professionals within the equestrian industry who can attest to the applicant’s skills and character. Applications must be submitted either via email or mail by the stated deadline, and all materials are reviewed by a designated grant committee. Selected applicants may be invited to participate in a follow-up interview conducted via video conference. Applications for the grant are due by July 1, 2026. Following the review process, applicants are notified of their status via email. The selection process is conducted objectively and without discrimination, and individuals with familial ties to foundation leadership or selection committee members are not eligible. For inquiries regarding the application process, applicants may contact the designated program representative via email or phone. The inaugural award amount for this grant cycle is $5,000, representing a significant investment in the professional growth of aspiring equestrian grooms.
