The Diller Teen Tikkun Olam Awards, presented by the Helen Diller Family Foundation, recognize exceptional Jewish teens who are leading impactful volunteer projects that embody the Jewish value of tikkun olam, or "repairing the world." Established to uplift and support the efforts of young changemakers, the award offers both financial resources and community connections to help awardees expand their initiatives. Each year, up to 15 recipients are honored for their commitment to social change and leadership in projects addressing critical societal issues.
Eligible nominees must be between 15 and 19 years old by the application deadline and identify as Jewish. They must reside in the United States, including the continental states, Alaska, and Hawaii. Nominees must currently lead a volunteer project based in the U.S., though projects may have international impact. They must serve in an unpaid leadership capacity, and projects should demonstrate measurable outcomes and sustained engagement. A nominator, who cannot be a family member, must submit the nomination form.
The application and nomination cycle begins in August, with nominations due by December 22 and applications due by January of the following year. Semifinalists are announced in March and asked to provide updated project information and references. Finalists are selected in April, and awardees are announced in May. The evaluation process involves more than 100 reviewers nationwide who assess each application based on demonstrated leadership, innovation, project impact, and sustained dedication.
Each selected teen receives a $36,000 award, which may be used for educational purposes or to further their project. Awardees also attend a celebration weekend and retreat (shabbaton) in San Francisco, connecting with fellow recipients, alumni, and program leadership. Beyond the financial award, the program offers media exposure and ongoing mentorship opportunities to foster the continued growth and visibility of the teen's work.
To nominate a teen, nominators must complete the official nomination form by December 22. Forms may be downloaded, saved, and submitted online. Applicants selected as semifinalists will need to provide additional documentation, including references. The program encourages early preparation, as the competitive process emphasizes the nominee's ability to articulate their project’s significance, history, and goals in their own words.
