Poway Community Foundation Grant Program

The Poway Community Foundation is a philanthropic organization operating as a donor advised fund of the San Diego Foundation, a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit entity. The program explicitly excludes individuals, private non-operating foundations, and supporting organizations. Additionally, scholarships to individuals are not eligible for funding. All proposed projects must be implemented within the City of Poway and must serve its residents. Funding is available in amounts ranging from 2500 to 10000 dollars per project. These funds are intended to support specific, clearly defined initiatives rather than general operating expenses or ongoing obligations. The foundation prohibits the use of grant funds for debt relief, capital or annual campaigns, scholarships, or projects that promote religious or political doctrine. Projects must be feasible within a 12 month implementation period and must demonstrate clear goals, defined strategies, measurable outcomes, and evaluation procedures. Applicants are also required to present a plan for long term sustainability beyond the grant period. The application process is conducted entirely online through the foundation’s grant portal. Applicants must prepare all required information in advance, as the system does not allow saving drafts for later editing. All fields must be completed at the time of submission, and incomplete applications will not be considered. The foundation recommends drafting responses in a separate document before copying them into the online form. Upon submission, a PDF copy of the completed application is sent to the organization leader’s email address. The evaluation process includes several stages. After submission, applications are reviewed to ensure eligibility and completeness. Selected applicants may be invited to participate in an interview with the grant committee, followed by a finalist meeting. Successful applicants are expected to accommodate a site visit during the grant period. Reporting requirements include a mid year update and a final report detailing project outcomes and impact. Failure to submit required reports may affect future eligibility for funding. The grant cycle follows an annual schedule aligned with the calendar year. Applications for the current cycle are accepted between May 12 and August 31, with a firm submission deadline of August 31 at 5:00 PM PDT. Interviews are scheduled in early October, with finalist meetings in mid November and award notifications issued on December 1. Funded projects are expected to be carried out between January 1 and December 31 of the following year, reinforcing the program’s structured annual cadence.
