Wine Studies Grant
This grant provides financial support to women in the San Francisco Bay Area who are pursuing education and career opportunities in the wine industry.
The Wine Studies Grant is offered by Les Dames d’Escoffier San Francisco, a chapter of an international organization dedicated to supporting women leaders in the food, beverage, and hospitality industries. The organization focuses on advancing education, advocacy, and philanthropy while fostering a strong professional community among women. Through this grant, the San Francisco chapter aims to expand access to education and leadership opportunities within the wine industry, particularly for women seeking to deepen their expertise or transition into wine-related careers. The primary purpose of the grant is to provide financial support and recognition to women working in or entering the wine sector. The program is designed to strengthen representation and leadership across all aspects of the wine industry, including production, viticulture, hospitality, sales, marketing, education, and entrepreneurship. By supporting professional development and educational advancement, the grant seeks to cultivate leaders who will contribute to and advocate for a more inclusive and dynamic wine community. The grant provides two awards annually, each in the amount of 2500 dollars. These awards are non-renewable and are intended to support a wide range of eligible expenses tied to wine education and professional growth. Allowable uses include formal certification programs such as WSET or the Court of Master Sommeliers, academic coursework through institutions like UC Davis, and training programs offered by recognized wine academies. Funds may also be used for immersion travel experiences focused on wine regions, the purchase of educational materials including books and study tools, and participation in workshops, seminars, or other professional development opportunities aligned with the applicant’s career goals. Eligibility is restricted to individuals who identify as women and are either currently working in or transitioning into the wine industry. Applicants must reside within specific counties in the San Francisco Bay Area, including Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, Santa Cruz, and Sonoma. Candidates must demonstrate alignment with organizational values such as community engagement, mentorship, leadership, and inclusion. Members of Les Dames d’Escoffier are not eligible to apply. The application process requires submission of an online application form along with supporting materials. Applicants must provide one letter of recommendation and respond to five written questions, each limited to 250 words. Following the initial review, top candidates are selected as finalists and invited to complete an additional response, either in written format up to 500 words or via a short video submission. Applications are evaluated by the Wine Studies Committee based on commitment to a career in wine, clarity of professional goals, intended use of funds, leadership qualities, demonstrated need, and alignment with the organization’s mission. The timeline for the grant includes an application opening date of June 1, 2026, and a submission deadline of July 31, 2026. After the deadline, applications are reviewed and finalists are selected, with final decisions announced in August 2026. Award recipients are formally recognized at a Les Dames d’Escoffier San Francisco member event held in October or November 2026. While the grant is awarded annually, each cycle requires a new application, and there is no renewal option for prior recipients.
