Tire Products (Tire) Grant

The Tire Products (Tire) Grant provides financial support for projects in Georgia that advance the goals of the Solid Waste Trust Fund by reducing solid waste, supporting manufacturing and market development for scrap tires, and encouraging innovative uses of scrap tire material. The program is administered through Georgia's Environmental Protection Division and is intended to support eligible public-sector applicants undertaking projects involving tire-derived products or research into new and beneficial uses of scrap tires. Awards are subject to the amount of funding available, and eligible applicants may request up to $250,000. The Tire Grant has two eligible project tracks, and an applicant must select one track and may not apply for more than one track during the same grant cycle. The Tire-derived Products track supports projects incorporating tire-derived products into applications that would normally use conventional or virgin materials. Examples include paving, poured playgrounds or trails, mats, pavers, tiles, courts for schools or parks, and traffic-related products. Grant funds under this track may pay only direct costs associated with incorporating tire-derived products and related services. These direct costs may include material costs and services such as hauling and mixing the tire-derived product. No matching funds are required for this track. The Research of New and/or Innovative Uses for Scrap Tires track supports projects seeking to identify innovative uses, conduct research or testing, or develop beneficial uses or products derived from scrap tires. Grant funds may be used for costs related to the research, including salaries and material testing. Applicants selecting this track must provide a minimum match equal to 20 percent of the total project cost, while awarded grant funds may cover up to 80 percent of the total project cost. Projects at various stages of development may be considered under the Tire Grant. For either track, the portion of the project supported by the grant may not exceed 24 months in length. Eligible applicants and recipients include Georgia counties, municipalities, combinations of counties or municipalities, and public authorities, agencies, commissions, or institutions. Local government applicants must have qualified local government status as of the application date, as determined by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. The program is therefore geographically focused on Georgia. Applicants should ensure that they satisfy the applicable organizational and local government qualification requirements before submitting an application. For the FY 2027 cycle, applications will be accepted online through the SWTF Grant Administration Portal beginning August 24, 2026, and closing September 30, 2026. The Portal is used for applications and is also used for reimbursement requests and quarterly and final reports. Applicants must choose the applicable project track for their proposed project.
