Fighting Hunger Grants
This funding opportunity supports nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and Canada that are dedicated to alleviating hunger through food assistance, education, and innovative programs for vulnerable populations.
The Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, rooted in the philanthropic mission of the Alpha Gamma Delta women’s fraternity, operates with a primary focus on combating hunger in communities across the United States and Canada. Through its Fighting Hunger Grant initiative, the Foundation supports nonprofit organizations actively working to address food insecurity. These grants reflect the organization’s commitment to alleviating hunger through direct food assistance, food rescue operations, and nutrition education programming, with a strategic aim to foster long-term impact in local communities. Since inception, the Foundation has awarded over $2 million to qualifying organizations, underscoring its longstanding dedication to this cause. The Fighting Hunger Grant is open to U.S. nonprofit organizations classified under 501(c)(3), excluding those in U.S. territories, and Canadian nonprofit organizations, excluding private foundations. Eligible organizations must have missions aligned with food assistance or hunger relief, including but not limited to food pantries, food banks, and programs for vulnerable populations such as children, families, and seniors. Organizations must also have annual revenues of $10 million or less and be operational for at least three years. Additionally, applicants are required to submit their most recent Form 990 or the Canadian equivalent (T3010), including all schedules. Groups filing Form 990-N, Form 990-PF, or designated as Canadian private foundations are ineligible. Applications for the current cycle opened on December 1, 2025, and will close on January 31, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. All applications must be submitted via the SmarterSelect portal, and applicants are encouraged to create accounts using general organizational emails to ensure continuity in communication. The application process does not involve any pre-application requirements such as LOIs or concept papers. Reviewers evaluate submissions based on alignment with the Foundation's mission, financial stability, populations served, innovation, educational components, measurable outcomes, and long-term program sustainability. Final decisions are communicated via email around May 1, 2026. Award amounts are capped at $10,000 per program or project, though most recipients receive around $5,000 due to high demand and limited funding. A total of $300,000 was disbursed during the 2024–2025 cycle to 38 organizations across 20 states, supporting a wide array of projects from Meals on Wheels to community pantry programs. Each organization is eligible to receive only one grant per cycle. The Foundation explicitly prohibits funding individuals, organizations outside the U.S. or Canada, religious groups that limit service access, or political organizations. Recipients must submit a final grant report by October 31, 2026, or within 30 days of the program’s end date—whichever comes first. The Foundation emphasizes careful planning, proofreading, and early application submission, as no late materials are accepted. For assistance, programmatic inquiries should be directed to the Foundation via email at foundation@alphagammadeltafoundation.org or phone at (317) 663-4242. Technical issues with the SmarterSelect portal should be addressed directly to the platform. Organizations that are not selected are encouraged to reapply in future cycles.
