Grant Description

The Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities Grant Program provides financial assistance to Massachusetts municipalities for recreation land acquisition, development of new parks, and renovation of existing parks. The program is intended to expand park and outdoor recreation opportunities and incorporates resiliency considerations in project scoring. Eligible applicants are municipalities with an approved Open Space and Recreation Plan on file with the Division of Conservation Services, or a plan currently under review as allowed by the program. Funded properties must be open to the general public for appropriate active recreational use, and acquired or developed properties become protected parkland. This is a reimbursement grant program. Selected applicants must demonstrate the ability to cover 100 percent of total project costs through a municipal appropriation, and costs incurred before an executed contract are generally not eligible for reimbursement. Artificial turf fields are not eligible for FY 27 funding, and design work is fundable only when included as part of a construction project.
