Northwest Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety Grant Program

The Northwest Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety administers a small grant program designed to support local initiatives that reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities within the Northwest Missouri Department of Transportation region. This coalition operates in alignment with Missouri’s broader Show-Me Zero initiative, which is a statewide strategic highway safety plan focused on eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries. The grant program is intended to provide targeted, community-level funding that enables local organizations to address specific roadway safety concerns through evidence-based interventions. The purpose of this funding opportunity is to support projects that directly address one or more of the core emphasis areas identified in the Show-Me Zero plan. These emphasis areas include occupant protection, impaired driving, distracted driving, and speeding or aggressive driving. Eligible activities may include the purchase of safety equipment such as child safety seats or bicycle helmets, educational outreach campaigns aimed at behavior change, and enforcement-related tools or initiatives. Projects must clearly align with at least one of these emphasis areas, and applicants are instructed to identify only those factors that are directly addressed by their proposed project. Funding through this program is limited and structured as a reimbursement model. Applicants must first incur expenses and then submit appropriate documentation to receive reimbursement. Required documentation includes an invoice on official organizational letterhead, proof of payment, and receipts that match the original application description. All reimbursements are issued directly to the applying organization. Additionally, applicants must maintain an active vendor account with MissouriBUYS to be eligible for payment processing. All awarded funds must be expended and reimbursement requests submitted by May 31, 2027. Eligibility for this grant is limited to organizations that serve or benefit the Northwest Missouri MoDOT region. Eligible applicants include local governments, law enforcement agencies, schools, nonprofit organizations, health departments, and community groups. The program encourages collaboration and active participation in coalition activities, and application scoring may consider factors such as regular attendance at coalition meetings and engagement in regional safety efforts. The application process requires submission of a complete application form along with several required supporting documents. These include a signed Agency Authorization Form, a detailed project timeline, a project budget, and a copy of the applicant’s seat belt or occupant protection policy. Applications must be complete at the time of submission, as incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Applicants are also instructed to print the application prior to submission due to formatting requirements. The application deadline for this funding cycle is June 10, 2026, by the close of business. Following project implementation and reimbursement, grant recipients are encouraged to present their project outcomes and impact to the coalition. This reporting component supports knowledge sharing and helps strengthen regional safety strategies.
