The Community Projects Grant (CPG) Program is a funding initiative established through an agreement between the City of Simi Valley and Waste Management to support local community-based projects. This annual program allocates approximately $150,000 in total funding to local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that deliver programs and services benefiting the residents of Simi Valley. Funding recommendations are made by the CPG Review Committee, with final decisions rendered by the Simi Valley City Council.
The application window for the Fiscal Year 2025–26 funding cycle closed on January 30, 2025. During the review process, the CPG Review Committee evaluates proposals submitted by eligible nonprofit organizations. This committee is composed of representatives from the city's four Neighborhood Councils, the Council on Aging, the Youth Council, and one community-at-large member. All representatives are appointed by the City Council and serve until awards are finalized.
An optional virtual informational workshop was offered on January 14, 2025, to help applicants understand the application process and program expectations. Presentation materials from the session are available online for those unable to attend. Grant awards were approved and announced on May 19, 2025. Recipients included a range of organizations focused on education, health, housing, and social services.
The program’s eligibility criteria require applicants to be incorporated 501(c)(3) nonprofits. Organizations must either be located within Simi Valley, operate a satellite within the city, serve at least 50% Simi Valley residents, or ensure that 100% of grant-funded activities serve Simi Valley residents. Only one application per organization is permitted, unless part of a joint application for distinct activities. Grants must be used for direct costs and must be fully expended within the city’s fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30.
Individual grant requests must range between $10,000 and $150,000. Projects must demonstrate a clear benefit to Simi Valley, meet a defined community need, and be feasible for completion within the grant year. For more information or to inquire about future application cycles, interested parties may contact the City of Simi Valley’s Department of Environmental Services via email or phone.
Attend the informational workshop for guidance and ensure your project directly benefits Simi Valley residents.
