The Nonhuman Primate Reagent Resource (NHPRR), funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is a specialized initiative focused on enhancing biomedical research that utilizes nonhuman primate (NHP) models. Applicants are expected to oversee the development, acquisition, production, and distribution of over 250 existing reagents, as well as the creation of at least two new reagents: one for in vitro and one for in vivo use. The new candidates must be novel in their specificity or formulation and suitable for NHP application. Emphasis is placed on quality control, rigorous validation, and ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory standards, especially for reagents used in live animals. In addition to reagent provision, the NHPRR must maintain a comprehensive and publicly accessible website. This platform must include a searchable reagent catalog, technical specifications, usage protocols, and a system for community feedback and reagent requests. An essential part of the program is outreach and community engagement to assess current and emerging reagent needs within the NHP research field. The resource also requires robust data and inventory management systems, covering electronic records, order tracking, and secure storage. Eligible applicants include a wide range of organizations including public and private higher education institutions, nonprofits, state and local governments, small businesses, and federally recognized tribal governments. Non-domestic entities and foreign components are not eligible to apply. No cost-sharing or matching is required under this opportunity. The project period can last up to five years, and application budgets are not capped but must be justified by project needs. Applications must follow the detailed instructions provided in the NIH "How to Apply - Application Guide" and include an Overall Management Plan. The NIH will fund one award with an anticipated budget of $1.3 million in FY2026. The application process opens on September 28, 2025, with a submission deadline of October 28, 2025. Reviews will take place in spring 2026, with an earliest start date of July 2026. Though expired, applications may still be accepted under NIHโs late/continuous submission policy in special cases.
