Youth Philanthropy Council Fund

The Youth Philanthropy Council (YPC) Grant, administered by the Hutchinson Community Foundation, is a youth-led funding initiative that supports projects aimed at benefiting youth within Reno County, Kansas. This unique program engages high school students from across the county in all aspects of grantmaking. Participants are empowered to identify community needs affecting youth, establish funding criteria, evaluate proposals, and make final grant decisions. The program was founded in honor of Dick Dillon, a dedicated community philanthropist, through the establishment of the Richard W. Dillon Memorial Fund for Youth Philanthropy. The YPC Grant focuses on encouraging projects that promote youth engagement, development, and community service. Proposed initiatives may include youth-led or youth-directed programs that foster healthy development, introduce youth to the arts, build intergenerational relationships, or promote civic involvement through service. Applications must reflect a solid plan and realistic budget, and they are expected to demonstrate active youth involvement with appropriate adult supervision. Grant proposals are accepted from 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that serve Reno County, including certain units of government like schools and churches, provided they propose innovative youth-centered projects. Proposals from individuals or organizations lacking tax-exempt status are not eligible. Each application must include a brief signed statement of support from a youth. Grant awards typically range from $250 to $1,000, with an average grant of $750. The total available funding for the program is approximately $5,000 annually. The Youth Philanthropy Council reserves the right to partially fund applications. Applications for the 2025 grant cycle were due by January 15, 2025. Following a review process in February, applicants were notified in late February, and awards were formally presented during a ceremony held on March 2, 2025. The most recent cycle is now closed. There is currently no confirmation of a future grant round.
