Grant for Technology Opportunities Program - Capacity
This micro-grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations in Austin to improve their digital infrastructure and staff training, enhancing their capacity to promote digital equity.
The GTOPs Capacity grant is a micro-grant opportunity within the City of Austin’s Grant for Technology Opportunities Program. It is designed to strengthen the internal capacity of nonprofit organizations working in digital equity by funding technology infrastructure and staff development. Unlike other GTOPs pathways, this grant does not fund direct service delivery but instead focuses on building organizational capabilities. The purpose of the Capacity grant is to support nonprofits in acquiring the tools and training needed to improve their digital equity programming. Eligible uses include purchasing hardware and software, upgrading network infrastructure, and supporting staff participation in training, workshops, and professional development opportunities. These investments are intended to enhance the organization’s long-term effectiveness. Funding ranges from 150 to 2500 dollars per award, with a total program allocation of approximately 20000 dollars. Funds are distributed as a single payment shortly after award decisions are made. The program does not require insurance due to its non-client-facing nature, reducing administrative burden for applicants. Eligibility is limited to tax-exempt nonprofit organizations located in Austin or its Extra Territorial Jurisdiction with annual revenues under 1500000 dollars. Applicants must demonstrate alignment with GTOPs Capacity goals and comply with City purchasing requirements. Only one application per organization may be funded per fiscal year. Applications are accepted year-round through an online form, requiring details about the organization, funding request, alignment with program goals, and expected impact. Applications are reviewed by City staff and external reviewers, and awards are made based on scoring criteria including alignment, impact, feasibility, and budget clarity. Recipients are required to submit a single closeout report approximately three months after the award announcement. This report includes financial summaries, performance outcomes, and narrative descriptions of impact. The Capacity grant provides a flexible and accessible funding opportunity for organizations seeking to strengthen their internal digital equity capabilities.
