Grant Description

The Quick Grant program is administered by the Center for Cultural Innovation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting artists, creatives, and cultural workers through financial resources, professional development, and research initiatives. The program reflects the organization’s broader mission to strengthen the sustainability and resilience of the arts sector, particularly in California. As a microgrant initiative, Quick Grants are designed to provide relatively small but impactful funding opportunities that can significantly enhance an applicant’s professional capacity and long-term viability. The primary purpose of the Quick Grant program is to provide up to 600 dollars in professional development funding to individual artists, creatives, cultural practitioners, and staff members of nonprofit arts organizations. The program specifically targets activities that improve administrative capacity, business acumen, and financial resilience. Supported activities include participation in workshops, conferences, and training sessions, as well as engagement with consultants, mentors, and coaches. The emphasis is on skill-building and knowledge acquisition that can be applied to strengthen artistic practice or organizational operations. Funding through this program may be used for a variety of eligible expenses tied directly to professional development activities. These include travel-related costs such as transportation, lodging, meals, and associated fees, regardless of the distance traveled. Additional allowable expenses include caregiving costs that enable participation, registration fees for educational events, memberships or subscriptions that provide access to professional networks or knowledge resources, and fees for engaging consultants or mentors. However, all supported activities must have a clear educational component and result in transferable skills. Activities that involve outsourcing work without direct learning engagement, such as hiring someone to complete a task on behalf of the applicant, are not eligible. Eligibility for the Quick Grant program includes two primary groups. Individual applicants must be California-based artists, creatives, cultural practitioners, or cultural producers who reside full-time in the state. Organizational applicants must be staff members of nonprofit, tax-exempt arts organizations located in San Francisco or San Jose, or staff of fiscally sponsored arts organizations with the majority of their programming occurring in those cities. Additional eligibility requirements may apply as outlined in the program guidelines, particularly regarding organizational structure and programming location. The application process operates on a monthly cycle with clearly defined deadlines and timelines. Applications open on the 16th of each month at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time and close on the 15th of the following month at 11:59 a.m. Pacific Time. Applicants are notified of their status by the 16th of the subsequent month. A critical eligibility requirement is that proposed activities must begin no earlier than one month after the application deadline, aligning with the notification timeline. This ensures that funding decisions are made prior to the start of the supported activity. Evaluation of applications is based on the alignment of the proposed activity with the program’s goals of skill development and capacity building. Competitive applications clearly demonstrate how the activity will provide meaningful learning outcomes and contribute to the applicant’s professional growth or organizational effectiveness. The program prioritizes activities that offer direct educational benefits and practical skill acquisition. The Quick Grant program operates on a recurring monthly basis, providing continuous opportunities for applicants to seek funding throughout the year. Notifications are communicated through the Submittable platform, which also serves as the primary application portal. While no specific individual contact person is listed, applicants are encouraged to reach out to the Center for Cultural Innovation via their general email or phone contacts for support. This consistent and cyclical structure makes the program highly accessible for eligible participants seeking timely professional development support.
