Grant Description

The Wastewater Energy Recovery Pilot Grant supports projects in Massachusetts that use wastewater as a source of recoverable thermal energy for building heating, hot water, or cooling. MassDEP is offering phased funding for wastewater heat recovery pilot projects, including energy assessment, project design, and construction activities intended to advance this decarbonization technology at multiple pilot locations. Eligible applicants include public and private wastewater facilities, municipal or state-owned facilities, public or private schools, colleges and universities, and nonprofit or privately owned facilities such as housing, hospitals, commercial, and industrial sites. The applicant must own the facility where the project will be completed, serve as the contract signatory, and submit receipts for reimbursement. Grants are offered on a rolling, first-come basis until phase funding or total funds are exhausted.
