Teen Pregnancy Prevention Evaluation Grants
This funding opportunity supports research projects that evaluate and improve strategies for preventing teen pregnancy and promoting adolescent health among youth populations.
The Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Evaluation Grants program is administered by the Office of Population Affairs within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This federal funding opportunity supports research and evaluation projects that aim to strengthen evidence-based approaches to preventing teen pregnancy and improving adolescent health outcomes. The program operates under the authority of the Public Health Service Act and annual federal appropriations, reflecting a broader national commitment to promoting informed decision-making, healthy relationships, and reproductive health education among youth populations. The primary purpose of this funding opportunity is to support rigorous evaluation studies that examine teen pregnancy prevention strategies and contribute meaningful insights to the field. Projects are expected to explore new research questions, assess implementation quality, and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of existing programs. The initiative prioritizes evaluations that focus on areas such as adolescent health literacy, reproductive goals counseling, parental engagement, and sexual risk avoidance education. These evaluations may include secondary data analysis, longitudinal studies, or assessments of program fidelity and adaptation, provided they can be completed within a two to three year timeframe. Funding for this program is estimated at 2200000 dollars total, with up to seven awards anticipated. Individual awards are expected to range between 150000 and 1100000 dollars, with a project period of up to 36 months. Funds may be used for research activities including data analysis, evaluation design, stakeholder engagement, and dissemination of findings. However, restrictions apply to certain costs, such as pre-award expenses and construction activities. Indirect costs are capped for training-related components, and all expenditures must comply with federal cost principles and oversight requirements. Eligibility for this grant is broad and inclusive, allowing applications from public and private nonprofit organizations, for-profit entities, institutions of higher education, tribal governments, and local or state government agencies. Faith-based and community-based organizations are also eligible. Applicants must designate a qualified Project Director or Principal Investigator responsible for the project. While multiple organizations may collaborate, only one entity may serve as the official applicant and award recipient. Applications must be submitted electronically through Grants.gov and include several required components such as a project narrative, appendices, and a detailed budget package. The project narrative must clearly describe the evaluation design, research questions, methodology, and expected outcomes. Applicants must also provide documentation of organizational capacity, key personnel qualifications, and a work plan outlining project milestones. The application process requires strict adherence to formatting and submission guidelines, and incomplete or noncompliant applications may be disqualified. Applications will be evaluated through a merit review process based on criteria including project significance, technical approach, measurable outcomes, organizational capacity, project management, and budget justification. Successful applicants will demonstrate strong alignment with program priorities and the potential to generate actionable findings that improve adolescent health programs. Awards are expected to be issued by late September, with projects beginning shortly thereafter. The application deadline for the current cycle is August 5, 2026, and a technical assistance webinar is scheduled for July 10, 2026 to support prospective applicants.
