Oral Health Grant Program
This program provides funding to nonprofit organizations and governmental entities in Missouri to improve oral health access and education for underserved populations, particularly children and low-income individuals.
The Oral Health Grant Program is administered by Delta Dental of Missouri, a nonprofit dental benefits organization committed to improving oral health outcomes for individuals of all ages. The organization advances its mission through strategic investments in community-based programs that promote education, prevention, and access to dental care. With a strong focus on underserved populations, including children, low-income individuals, and those living in rural or dental health professional shortage areas, the program is designed to create measurable improvements in oral health across the state of Missouri. The purpose of the grant program is to reduce oral disease and improve access to high-quality, affordable dental care. The program supports initiatives that enhance oral health awareness, expand preventive services, and increase access to treatment. Emphasis is placed on projects that can demonstrate measurable outcomes and contribute to improving statewide oral health indicators. The funder prioritizes proposals that address disparities in care and target populations that experience barriers to accessing dental services. Funding is available for a range of uses, including project-based initiatives, program support, capacity building efforts, equipment purchases, and in some cases general operating support. The program gives preference to proposals that increase access to care in rural communities and federally designated dental health professional shortage areas. While matching funds are not required, applications that demonstrate a dollar-for-dollar match from other funding sources are viewed more favorably during the evaluation process. Eligible applicants include organizations that are recognized as tax-exempt public charities under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, as well as governmental entities and academic institutions such as nonprofit schools and health departments. All applicants must serve individuals within the state of Missouri. Financial documentation is required for all applicants, with audited financial statements required for larger or more established organizations and independently reviewed financial statements required for smaller or newer organizations. Organizations without these financial documents are subject to lower maximum funding limits. The application process follows a structured two-stage approach. Applicants must first submit a Letter of Inquiry through the online grant management system. This initial submission allows organizations to present their proposed project for preliminary review. Applications that meet initial criteria may be invited to submit a full application and may also be subject to additional evaluation steps such as meetings or site visits. Final applications must include all required supporting documentation and are reviewed by the Charitable Giving Committee, which determines funding decisions based on alignment with program priorities and anticipated impact. The grant cycle follows a defined annual timeline. Applications for the 2026 cycle opened on February 2, 2026, with a deadline for Letters of Inquiry on May 22, 2026. Full applications for invited applicants are due on June 5, 2026, followed by a review period in July 2026 and award announcements in August 2026. Successful applicants will be required to enter into a grant agreement and complete both interim and final reporting requirements to document outcomes and impact. Grants are awarded for a single year of support, and while organizations may reapply in future cycles, funding is not guaranteed beyond the initial grant period.
