DOER Regional School District Decarbonization Grant Program
This program provides funding to Massachusetts regional school districts to replace fossil fuel equipment with efficient electric alternatives, promoting electrification and emissions reductions, especially in disadvantaged communities.
The DOER Regional School District Decarbonization Grant Program helps Massachusetts regional school districts replace fossil fuel equipment at existing facilities with efficient electric alternatives. Supported projects include renewable thermal technologies for space conditioning, efficient electric water heating, battery-powered facilities maintenance equipment, and electric commercial kitchen equipment when replacing gas-powered alternatives. The program is intended for Regional School Districts and supports projects that demonstrate electrification and emissions reductions. It is designed to address funding gaps for small- to medium-heating system and facility equipment electrification projects, and priority may be given to eligible projects in disadvantaged communities. Funding is available through a competitive grant process, with applicants expected to use applicable utility incentives and other available funds where possible to improve project cost-effectiveness and feasibility. Projects must be completed within 12 months of award and no later than January 1, 2028.
