Grant Description

The LBE Equipment Decarbonization Grant Program for State Entities supports Massachusetts state entities in replacing fossil-fuel equipment at existing state government facilities with efficient electric alternatives. The program is intended to help close funding gaps for small to medium electrification projects and to avoid in-kind replacement of fossil-fuel-based systems and equipment. Supported work includes renewable thermal technologies for space conditioning, efficient electric water heating, battery-powered facilities maintenance, operations and landscaping equipment, and electric commercial kitchen equipment. Applicants must pursue applicable outside funding such as utility incentives where available, and projects may receive priority if they are located in disadvantaged communities. Eligible applicants are Commonwealth of Massachusetts executive branch agencies, public institutions of higher education, and quasi-public authorities. Funding is available on a rolling basis through June 30, 2027, with total available grant funding capped at $2,450,000 and incentive levels that vary by project scope and facility location.
