The Office of Minority Health announces the anticipated availability of funds for Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 under the authority of 42 U.S.C. 300u-6 (Section 1707 of the Public Health Service Act).This notice solicits applications for projects to demonstrate that community level innovations that reduce barriers related to social determinants of health (SDOH) can increase use of preventive health services and make progress toward Leading Health Indicator (LHI) targets. LHIs are a subset of high priority Healthy People 2030 (HP2030) objectives selected to drive action toward improving health and well-being. SDOH are described in HP2030 as conditions in the environments where people are born, live, learn, work, play, worship, and age that affect a wide range of health, functioning, and quality-of-life outcomes and risks.We anticipate the availability of $8,000,000 for up to 14 awards, ranging from $475,000 to $600,000 annually, for a period of performance of up to 48 months. Recipients will be required to report on progress and milestones as part of an annual noncompeting continuation application. Costs of medical services are unallowable under this funding opportunity. Early in the fourth budget period, we anticipate offering a competing continuation opportunity for an additional 12-month budget period (i.e., a fifth budget period) to support selected successful projects in their transition to sustainability. Funding available for the additional budget period is not guaranteed nor expected to be at the same level of previous budget periods. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), invites grant applications for Training Project Grants (TPGs) that are focused on occupational safety and health training. NIOSH is mandated to provide an adequate supply of qualified personnel to carry out the purposes of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the TPGs are one of the principal means for meeting this mandate. The majority of TPGs are in academic institutions that provide high quality training in the core occupational safety and health disciplines of industrial hygiene (IH), occupational health nursing (OHN), occupational medicine residency (OMR), occupational safety (OS), as well as allied disciplines. NIOSH also funds non-academic programs to meet specific training needs of targeted populations including firefighters, commercial fishermen and occupational health and safety interns.

Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) Data Integration, Systems, and Quality Technical Assistance (DISQ) is a national training and technical assistance (T/TA) program to support RWHAP recipients and subrecipients. It funds activities to increase access to high-quality HIV care and support services for low-income people with HIV in the United States. The DISQ program develops and disseminates T/TA to help RWHAP recipients and subrecipients develop and implement data collection activities related to HIV care. This program will improve RWHAP recipients and subrecipients capacity to meet data-related program requirements and help them use data to make their programs more efficient and effective. We will award one cooperative agreement to a technical assistance provider. This provider will be responsible for on-site and virtual T/TA to RWHAP recipients and subrecipients.

The Supporting Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Screening and Intervention program helps reduce alcohol use during pregnancy and improves outcomes for children with FASD nationwide, especially in communities where theres a high rate of binge drinking during pregnancy. The program focuses on educating Primary Care Providers (PCPs) and increasing the use of screening, intervention, and referral processes for high-risk pregnancies. The programs goals include increasing PCPs knowledge of the risks of drinking alcohol during pregnancy as well as promoting recommended screenings, interventions, and referral approaches. In addition, PCPs who provide health care to children and adolescents will develop skills to identify and manage FASD, with a particular emphasis on fostering effective communication with families. Through recruitment, education, and technical assistance, the program aims to make lasting positive changes. Engaging a minimum of 80 practices over 5 years, the Supporting FASD Screening and Intervention program strives for widespread impact, particularly in communities that have high rates of binge drinking during pregnancy, including rural areas and medically underserved communities.

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disorders (NIDDK) intends to promote a new initiative by publishing a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications for the TrialNet Coordinating Center (TNCC). The TrialNet network identifies people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) at stages before and after onset of clinical symptoms and enrolls them in trials and studies aimed at prevention of progression to clinical disease and preservation of insulin production. The TNCC participates in ongoing studies and intervention trials as well as the design and conduct of new studies and intervention trials. The TNCC will: (1) support a wide range of research projects in varying stages of development, implementation and completion, and (2) provide data and sample management, including standardized acquisition, quality control, dissemination and public accessibility. The TNCC will be responsible for network administration and operations, including the evaluation, selection, and funding (through subcontracts) of Clinical Centers and central support units (such as laboratories) necessary for the conduct of TrialNets clinical studies. The TNCC PD/PI will be a voting member of the TrialNet Executive and Steering Committees, contributing to network leadership. This NOFO requires a Plan for Enhancing Diverse Perspectives (PEDP), which will be assessed as part of the scientific and technical peer review evaluation. Applications that fail to include a PEDP will be considered incomplete and will be withdrawn. Applicants are strongly encouraged to read the NOFO instructions carefully and view the available PEDP guidance material. This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects. The NOFO is expected to be published in Spring 2024 with an expected application due date in Summer 2024. This NOFO will utilize the U01 activity code. Eligible applicants are public agencies located in the State of California.  To be eligible, a Lead Agency must subcontract with one or more non-governmental, community-based organization(s) for a minimum of 50 percent of the total grant award to demonstrate a shared partnership rooted in community engagement and economic equity. Small scope applicants can apply for up to $2M and large scope candidates can apply for $2-8M. Through this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), the National Cancer Institute (NCI) invites applications for support of investigator-initiated studies addressing mechanisms by which bariatric surgery impacts cancer risk, and seeks to draw in talented scientists who study bariatric surgery to investigate its effects on cancer, rather than shorter term outcomes such as weight loss and diabetes. The goal of this FOA is to support proof of concept studies for feasibility and exploratory development. Feasibility must not have already been developed in the literature or with preliminary data. While unpublished data are not permitted, references and data from widely available preprints that have a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) are acceptable. Investigators who have generated unpublished preliminary data should submit a proposal to companion R01.
