The Re+ Circular Economy Grant Program, supported by the King County Solid Waste Division (SWD), is designed to foster projects that actively minimize waste, extend the lifespan of materials, and rejuvenate natural systems. This is achieved by supporting projects that offer higher uses for materials, focus on waste prevention, or improve the quality, quantity, and availability of recycling infrastructure. The Re+ Circular Economy Grant has two primary focus areas: Prevention and Reuse, and Recycling. Prevention and Reuse projects encompass efforts to reduce material consumption, build infrastructure for reusable products, increase food rescue, and encourage sharing or donating items. Recycling projects aim to create or expand markets for recycled materials (including organics), improve the quality and access to recycling in various communities, and even commercialize technologies that replace virgin materials with recycled content. Projects addressing plastic, paper, and organics (food waste, yard waste, and wood) are given higher priority during the evaluation process, reflecting a strategic emphasis on key waste streams. With approximately $2.2 million in grant funding available for the 2024-25 cycle, the program expects measurable outcomes such as increased food rescue for human and animal consumption, stimulated demand for reused and recycled products, expanded access to reuse and recycling programs, and enhanced collection and processing capacity for recyclable materials. Furthermore, the program anticipates the commercialization of new technologies that utilize recycled content and the development of new uses for recycled materials, all demonstrating future waste diversion potential. The King County Solid Waste Division's strategic priority is a whole system approach that balances upstream prevention with downstream recycling, underpinned by a theory of change that by supporting innovative projects in these areas, King County can achieve substantial reductions in landfill waste and foster a more equitable and resilient circular economy.

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announces the opportunity to apply for $51 million in competitive grants under the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Passenger Ferry Grant Program (PFG) (Federal Assistance Listing #20.532). The Memory Workers Fellowship, part of the Autistic Voices Oral History Project (tAVOHP), provides a unique opportunity for professionals in archives, libraries, oral history, and related fields to enhance their skills in working with neurodiverse communities. This grant-funded program, supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), aims to expand inclusion and accessibility in memory work while preserving diverse Autistic narratives. The fellowship is open to both Autistic and non-Autistic (allistic) individuals, with a focus on promoting equity, inclusion, and neuro-affirming practices. Applications are due by January 31, 2025. Fellows will receive training through the Oral History with Autistics for Memory Workers Workshop in March 2025, which will introduce inclusive methodologies tailored to Autistic communication styles. Between March and July 2025, fellows are required to conduct two oral history interviews with members of the Autistic community using the techniques learned. Completed interviews, along with biographical and release forms, must be submitted by August 15, 2025. Fellows will also participate in group meetings, office hours, and an online wrap-up event in September 2025 to share experiences and feedback. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to archives, oral history, or memory work and an interest in improving cross-neurotype communication. Priority will be given to individuals from underrepresented communities, including people of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, disabled people, and those facing financial hardship. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, U.S. citizens, or legally authorized to work in the United States. Fellows will receive $3,000 in compensation, distributed in three payments: upon signing the fellowship contract, after completing the workshop, and upon submitting the required interviews and materials. Interview participants will also receive $300 as compensation for their contributions. Fellows will have access to comprehensive support, including tools, templates, guidance, and accommodations tailored to their needs. This program is designed to foster better understanding of Autistic culture and narratives while equipping memory workers with tools to preserve and amplify these stories.
