With this solicitation, BJA seeks applications for funding under the FY 2024 Formula DNA Capacity Enhancement for Backlog Reduction (CEBR) Program. This program funds states and units of local government with existing crime laboratories that conduct DNA analysis to process, and/or to increase the capacity to process, more DNA samples for entry into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) by publicly funded forensic DNA and DNA database laboratories, thereby helping to reduce the number of forensic DNA and DNA database samples awaiting analysis and/or to prevent a backlog of forensic and database DNA samples.

The National Park Services (NPS) Underrepresented Communities Grant Program (URC) is intended to diversify listings in the National Register of Historic Places to include communities that are currently underrepresented. URC grants are funded by the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF), and are administered by the NPS. Projects include surveys and nominations of historic sites associated with communities underrepresented in the National Register. Every URC grant project MUST result in at least one new or amended nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.

With this solicitation, BJA seeks to invest in current and future leaders in the criminal justice field to advance priority national policy issues and offer cross-developmental opportunities for DOJ staff and criminal justice practitioners and researchers. Awards made under the BJA Visiting Fellows Program will fund fellowships for a period of 24 months for Category 1 and for 36 months under Category 2, including a dedicated immersion period when the Fellow will be expected to commit a significant portion of their time to the fellowship. With this solicitation, BJA seeks to provide grants to jurisdictions to improve outcomes for adults on community supervision. The Second Chance Act (SCA) of 2007 (Public Law 110-199), reauthorized by the First Step Act of 2018, provides a comprehensive response to assist in the transition individuals make from adult confinement facilities (e.g., jails, prisons, detention centers) to their communities so that the transition is successful and promotes public safety. The SCA is designed to help communities develop and implement comprehensive strategies that address the challenges posed by reentry and recidivism reduction. The Smart Supervision Program is part of the SCA suite of programs in fiscal year (FY) 2024.

The purpose of this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) is to solicit applications proposing mechanistic transdisciplinary research in animal models that integrates approaches across social/cognitive neuroscience with perspectives from fields with complementary approaches to the study of social behavior, with the goal of developing a testable conceptual or computational model that provides mechanistic insights into social behavior and its relationships with the onset, trajectory and impact of Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and comorbidities.
