The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers the Farmland Preservation Grant program to purchase development rights on farmland so that it remains available for agriculture into the future. The program is part of the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program and was expanded by the Legislature in 2005 to include significant farmland preservation. Funding supports acquisition of conservation easements and related incidental costs, along with eligible enhancement and restoration that improve agricultural viability, and stewardship planning. Typical projects acquire easements on farmland threatened by development. Enhancement and restoration elements may not exceed one half of total acquisition costs including match, and farm stewardship plans may not exceed 10,000 dollars. Eligible applicants include cities, counties, nonprofit nature conservancy corporations or associations, and the State Conservation Commission. Ineligible activities include short term rights under 25 years, acquisition of land already owned by government, property obtained through condemnation, consumable supplies except for a one time application as part of restoration, elements not considered fixtures or capital items, cleanup of illegal activities, indoor facilities, operating or overhead expenses, purchase of maintenance equipment or supplies, restoration conducted before grant agreement, and transfer of development rights. Eligibility: 1. Applicants must be the owner or authorized representative of an OTM or non-profit NN public water system. 2. The public water system must serve a community with a population less than 10,000. 3. The public water system must have either PFAS or manganese contamination. Project Eligibility: Projects must include actions to address PFAS or manganese contamination. Eligible items include project planning and design, technical assistance, construction or treatment to address contamination (such as consolidation with another water system, new well construction and old well abandonment, and treatment installation). Application Process: 1. Review the eligibility requirements and grant announcement. 2. Develop your project plan, considering technical assistance if needed. 3. Complete all application materials once they become available on Jan. 16, 2024. 4. Submit the application materials and required documents to DNRECSDCGrants@wisconsin.gov. 5. The incentives must be something reusable to replace HHW being disposed (does not include monetary or SWAG incentives, rechargeable batteries, adapters, valves, caps or other accessories for refilling propane canisters).(5) Set-up and operation of temporary or mobile collection program for one-day or multi-day collection events for the following except for those materials that are currently covered by another recycling/collection program (e.g. covered electronic waste, cell phones, thermostat, etc.): Common HHW materials and universal waste.Marine flaresPropane gas cylinders up to 5 gallonsSolar panels as a pilot project. Awardees are required to collect and report data on type/style of panels, manufacturer, volume, and the method of disposal.(6) New or expanded curbside and/or door-to-door collection programs to allow for the collection of new and eligible HHW materials. (7) Minor improvements to an existing HHW facility. (Examples include but are not limited to: storage bins, signage, painting, paving, shelving, etc.). Purchase of personal protection equipment. The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection administers the Community Based Deer Management Grant Program to assist local communities and nonprofits in addressing overabundant deer in urban landscapes. Funding supports planning, implementation, and support activities that facilitate safe and effective deer management. Eligible initiatives include signage for community based hunting programs, deer population density estimates or surveys, forest health surveys, and support for venison donation programs. For signage, the department contracts for production and delivery rather than providing direct financial awards. Deer must be processed at health inspected facilities and donated to New Jersey food banks in the venison donation initiative. Eligible applicants include county and local government units within New Jersey, including municipal park systems, and local nonprofit organizations recognized under Section 501(c)(3) that are authorized to operate in the state. EGLE's broader mission involves protecting Michigan’s environment and public health by managing air, water, land, and energy resources, with a focus on addressing climate change, diversity, equity, and inclusion. This grant program aligns directly with EGLE's strategic priorities by promoting the circular economy and sustainable resource management, particularly in the context of clean energy production and electric vehicle technology. The target beneficiaries for these matching grants are Michigan public or private colleges or universities that grant baccalaureate degrees and are actively studying opportunities to recycle, innovate, and maximize the use of critical minerals from electric vehicles and other battery storage units. The impact goals are to support research into the reuse of critical materials for clean energy production and to increase the reuse and recycling of batteries and other critical minerals. Preference will be given to institutions with partnerships involving entities in the research, development, or demonstration of these innovative approaches. The program prioritizes research into the reuse of critical materials for clean energy production through circular economy efforts to capture and reuse critical minerals. Additionally, it focuses on research, development, or demonstration of projects that specifically recycle critical minerals from electric vehicles and other battery storage units. This focus reflects EGLE's theory of change, which posits that investing in innovative research and development within academic institutions, especially those with industry partnerships, will lead to practical solutions for critical mineral recovery and contribute to a more sustainable energy future. Expected outcomes include the development and demonstration of new concepts and projects that significantly increase the reuse and recycling rates of critical minerals from batteries. Measurable results would involve the number and impact of research, development, and demonstration projects supported, the amount of critical minerals recycled or reused as a direct result of these projects, and advancements in the understanding and implementation of circular economy principles for clean energy materials. A total of $4.75 million in funding is expected, with individual grant awards ranging from $500,000 to $2,500,000, further demonstrating the significant investment EGLE is making to achieve these outcomes over the anticipated grant period of October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2029.
