The Social Justice Fund Northwest (SJF) has announced its 2025 Mountain West Organizing Grant, a two-year funding opportunity focused on grassroots organizing in under-resourced regions of the Mountain West. SJF, known for advancing collective liberation through community-led grantmaking, supports movements for racial, economic, and gender justice across a five-state region including Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming. Historically, a disproportionate amount of SJF’s funding has gone to urban hubs like Seattle and Portland. This new cycle emphasizes equitable redistribution of resources toward rural and reservation communities, particularly those in Idaho, Montana, Oregon (Mountain West region), and Wyoming. The grant provides $25,000 per year for two years, totaling $50,000 per awarded organization. The funding supports community organizing efforts aimed at building grassroots power. Eligible projects may include public advocacy, base-building, coalition-building, local and state-level policy work, gender-based violence prevention, immigration justice, anti-hate organizing, equitable access to housing and healthcare, labor or farmworker organizing, and more. SJF clarifies that the listed focus areas are not exhaustive, encouraging a broad range of grassroots organizing work that aligns with their framework. Eligibility is limited to nonprofit organizations, tribal agencies, or fiscally sponsored projects working within SJF’s community organizing model. Applicants must be operating in the target Mountain West states. Additional priority is given to groups with annual budgets under $500,000, those led by Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC)—defined as having at least 51% BIPOC leadership—and organizations working in rural areas, small towns, or reservation communities as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau. Applications for the 2025 cycle opened on July 10, 2025, and will close on August 14, 2025. An optional informational session will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025, from 5:00–6:30 p.m. Mountain Time (4:00–5:30 p.m. Pacific Time). Interested applicants are encouraged to register for the session through the SJF website. Grant award notifications will be announced in October 2025. SJF accepts applications through their online Grants Portal. The Portland Office of Violence Prevention's 2024-2025 Safer Portland Grant is an opportunity to help reduce gun violence through community-based prevention efforts. Who should apply? The 2024-2025 grant prioritizes efforts in the following Portland neighborhoods, including: Cully; Hazelwood; Eliot; Powellhurst-Gilbert; and/or Areas known for high rates of gun violence. Applicants supporting efforts in all neighborhoods, even those outside the priority areas, are encouraged to apply. We encourage organizations that serve culturally specific communities, women and female identifying communities, African Immigrant/Refugee communities, and the LGBTQIA+ community to apply. What programs are supported by the grant? Examples of programs and activities that can be supported through this grant include: Preventative programs, workshops, camps, and events; Flexible funds for direct community assistance and services; Youth and adult mediation and mentoring programs; Arts and culture or recreational violence preventative programs; Aftercare support funds for families of victims; and Capacity building in small contractors to provide services. How much funding is available? A total of $500,000 is available. Organizations can apply for up to $100,000. Grant awards may vary based on the scope of work and number of community members served. The State Library of Oregon works to improve library service for all Oregonians through their local public libraries. As state-funded non-competitive grants, Ready to Read funds are an essential part of this mission. Grants are distributed annually to all legally established public libraries who apply for and report on their yearly grant spending. In the late 1970’s, state funding was initially allocated to support libraries serving preschool aged children. This has changed over time to include an expanded focus on summer reading projects. The Oregon Revised Statutes governing the Ready to Read grant program can be found in 357.740-357.780. Grant renewed every year. Ready to Read grants help communities support our youngest Oregonians using the below early literacy and summer reading outcomes to direct their work. Outcomes are broad enough to allow all libraries, regardless of size and location, to address a meaningful early literacy and/or summer reading community need. Libraries choose annually which outcomes they will work towards in their communities. Early Literacy Outcome #1: Young children develop the 6 early literacy skills by the time they start kindergarten. Early Literacy Outcome #2: Adults enjoy reading, singing, talking, writing, and playing with their young children regularly to help them develop early literacy skills. Summer Reading Outcome #1: Youth maintain or improve their literacy skills over the summer. Summer Reading Outcome #2: Youth demonstrate their love of reading and learning by choosing to engage in these activities during their free time over the summer. Summer Reading Outcome #3: Adults enjoy spending time engaging in early literacy activities with youth over the summer to help them develop literacy skills. Each biennium, the Legislature allocates a total amount of Ready to Read funding, half of which is distributed each year of the biennium. Grant amounts are calculated each fiscal year with a formula assigning 80% of the grant based on the number of children ages 0-14 being served, and 20% based on the library's geographic area service boundaries. Libraries receive a minimum grant amount of $1000 and apply for the exact amount they are allocated each year. For 2024, the State Library plans to distribute $818,461 to 143 public libraries in December 2023 to use in their Ready to Read projects. For 2024, some allocated grant amounts may look slightly different than in previous years.Mostly this is due to a decrease or increase in the population of children in a particular service district.
