The Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant Program (DEAAG) is an infrastructure grant program aimed at supporting defense communities in Texas affected by changes in Department of Defense activities. This program offers financial assistance to local municipalities, counties, defense base development authorities, junior college districts, Texas State Technical College campuses, and regional planning commissions. DEAAG grants, ranging from $50,000 to $5 million per project, are available to meet matching requirements for federal funding. Grants are awarded based on criteria such as military value, project completion, dual benefit to military and community, alignment with the National Defense Strategy, support for new missions, resiliency, cost efficiency, impact significance, and funding contributions. The application process opens on September 2, 2024, with a deadline of October 11, 2024, for submission. Awards are announced in January 2025.

This RFA implements program activities set forth in the Texas General Appropriations Act (GAA), Article VII-49, Rider 50, 88th Texas Legislature, Regular Session (2023). The GAA includes the following requirements: 1) the number of persons served by a qualifying entity in the program year must be no fewer than seven hundred (700) unique individuals; 2) the number of persons served by a qualifying entity who have obtained Regular Employment at or above one hundred and twenty-five percent (125%) of federal poverty income guidelines must be no less than fifty percent (50%) of the total number of individuals returned to the workforce; and 3) the number of employers who will commit to hiring individuals upon exit of the program must be no fewer than one hundred (100) employers.

The Texans Feeding Texans Home-Delivered Meal Grant Program aims to supplement and extend current home-delivered meal programs for seniors and/or disabled Texans. Eligible entities include governmental and non-profit agencies. The program involves counties making qualifying grants to meal providers based on a rate of $0.25 per county senior as reported in the 2020 census. Meal providers must receive a grant from the county, deliver meals to homebound elderly or disabled individuals, and complete a required application. The Texas Department of Agriculture facilitates the funding process.

Collaborative Grants from the Legacy Foundation encourage partnerships among organizations or support larger individual projects within the lower Rio Grande area to improve health. Grants range from $50,000 to $500,000. These are meant to encourage collaboration among organizations working on larger projects, but a single organization's larger project could qualify as well. Collaborative Grants involving various partners can be strengthened by providing Letters of Support within the application which fully describe the nature of the project and collaboration. Applicants must submit a Letter of Intent and possibly undergo a site visit during the review process. Grant renewed every year. The National Academy of Sciences Gulf Research Program is investing $50 million in the Gulf Futures Challenge to fund projects addressing critical challenges in the Gulf region. The Challenge aims to discover and promote innovative and transformative solutions by leveraging the talent and knowledge of the Gulf's people. The competition focuses on three main areas: energy transition, environmental change along the coast, and healthy and resilient communities. Up to ten finalists will receive up to $1 million in project development support, with two finalists awarded $20 million each to implement their solutions. Eligible applicants include nonprofits, state, local, and tribal governments, and academic institutions from Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, or Texas, with projects located within 100 miles of the Gulf coastline. The registration deadline is August 20, 2024, and the application deadline is September 20, 2024.
