FY 2024 Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization Grant

This funding opportunity provides financial support to local governments partnering with community-based organizations to address environmental and climate injustices in their communities.

The purpose of CIG is to stimulate the development and adoption of innovative conservation approaches and technologies in conjunction with agricultural production in the United States and its territories. CIG projects are expected to lead to the transfer of conservation technologies, management systems, and innovative approaches (such as market-based systems) to agricultural producers, into government technical manuals and guides, or to the private sector. CIG generally funds pilot projects, field demonstrations, and on-farm conservation research. On-farm conservation research is defined as an investigation conducted to answer a specific applied conservation question using a statistically valid design while employing farm-scale equipment on farms, ranches or private forest lands. The CIG program is not a NRCS producer financial assistance program. Project outcomes should benefit a region of a state or the entire state and not just benefit one farm. NRCS will prioritize projects that will implement climate-smart agriculture conservation activities which are targeted to assist agricultural producers and nonindustrial private forestland owners in directly improving soil carbon, reducing nitrogen losses, or reducing, capturing, avoiding, or sequestering carbon dioxide, methane, or nitrous oxide emissions, associated with agricultural production. All CIG projects must involve EQIP-eligible producers that meet EQIPs eligibility requirements listed in 7 CFR 1466.6(b)(1) through (3).

The Equitable and Affordable Solutions to Electrification (EAS-E) Home Electrification Prize offers up to $2.4 million in prizes for innovative solutions that advance the electrification retrofits of residential homes across all building types and geographies. The goal is to make electrification more affordable and accessible in existing U.S. homes, with a focus on equitable solutions for all homeowners, including those in low-income and under-resourced communities. The prize supports design solutions, tools, and technology innovations that enable the switch to electric products and reduce carbon emissions. Low-power electrification solutions are strongly encouraged. The competition consists of two phases: Phase 1 focuses on presenting proposed solutions and up to five winners receive a $5,000 cash prize and a $75,000 voucher to work with DOE national laboratories. Phase 2 involves finalizing teams, demonstrating functional prototype solutions, and up to three winners receive prizes, with a top prize of $1 million. This initiative seeks input from industry stakeholders, researchers, and communities to help define and promote sustainable maritime fuels that align with national decarbonization goals and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime sector.

The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad invites eligible organizations to submit proposals to implement a project to support and develop committed young environment champions through Ecology Action groups focused on activities in high schools in Baghdad. The program implementer will create Eco Action Clubs or related organized extra curriculum groups at their schools. The implementer will also design the curriculum and the program. The Eco Action Clubs will be supporting student and faculty input in development of ecological activities. The opportunity will support targeted activities of the Eco Action Clubs to amplify efforts to combat climate change. The programs will serve to promote environmental diplomacy by building champions in climate advocacy for youth as well as youth leadership skills to carry out their initiatives. The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad seeks proposals for a project called Iraqi High School Eco Action Clubs. The proposed project will consist of establishing and managing Eco Action Clubs in conjunction with six high schools in Baghdad and its surrounding areas. The implementer will identify and develop 60-100 young environmental champions from these school clubs. The implementer will be responsible to the schools outreach and facilitate the Iraqi Ministry of Education required approvals. This program will prepare high school students to advocate for environmental reform and raise awareness to protect the environment in Baghdad, the most populated city in Iraq. The program implementer will work with the participating schools to create Eco Action Clubs through volunteerism amongst high school students. The grantee will select 60-100 students targeted school-aged youth with teachers, highlighting and advocating conservation and management of the environment and climate. Specifically, the grantee will work with the participating schools, and the U.S. Embassy will approve venues.

This funding opportunity provides financial support to states, Tribes, local governments, and qualifying organizations in EPA Region 10 to develop and improve wetland programs aimed at conserving and restoring wetlands.

Applications are accepted from eligible entities (Section C) for projects carried out in the state of Kansas. A total of up to $250,000 is available for the Kansas CIG competition in FY 2024. The maximum award amount for a single award in FY 2024 is $125,000. This funding opportunity provides financial support to state and territorial agencies for building and maintaining facilities that help manage sewage from recreational boats, promoting water quality and environmental protection.

To aid BOEMs ongoing modeling efforts, this study aims to develop a near real-time (NRT) modeling system for the endangered North Atlantic right whale population and a survey segment database of cetacean and other marine wildlife observations. The modeling system will predict whale density across the eastern seaboard using real-time visual and acoustic observations, coupled with environmental covariates.The study objectives are to integrate various survey datasets, including aerial and ship surveys, into a segment database and develop NRT models that can respond more quickly and flexibly to shifts in species space use and phenology. BOEM and the National Marine Fisheries Service will fund this study jointly.Initially, the system will serve as a research and development testbed, allowing a collaborative team of developers to address statistical challenges and refine software workflow. After the effectiveness of the density models has been established, daily predictions will be made operational and disseminated to the public. The system's capabilities could be expanded to issue short-term forecasts and encompass additional species, contingent on data availability and the development of suitable methods.

The purpose of the NIH Independent Scientist Award (K02) is to foster the development of outstanding scientists and enable them to expand their potential to make significant contributions to their field of research. The K02 award provides three to five years of salary support and "protected time" for newly independent scientists who can demonstrate the need for a period of intensive research focus as a means of enhancing their research careers. Each independent scientist career award program must be tailored to meet the individual needs of the candidate.
