The U.S. Embassy Nassaus Public Diplomacy (PD) section announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to develop and organize a Regional Alumnae Summit for the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) network throughout the Caribbean. The PD section invites proposals from non-profit organizations, civil society organizations, and U.S. government alumni organizations to design and organize a summit to connect small and medium businesses of AWE Alumnae from across the Caribbean during a 2-day Summit in Nassau, The Bahamas in Spring 2025. This Summit will also provide a forum for AWE Alumnae to expand their professional network, share best practices and gain broader market access. U.S. Mission China announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a Cleantech Business Case Competition to be held in East China (Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang or Anhui provinces). This program will seek and identify concrete ways to promote the business case for clean technology by holding a business plan competition for students to share innovative clean technology ideas. Participating students should be able to demonstrate business cases based on innovative ideas in clean technology and showcase ways to realize the development and deployment of those ideas.

Existing energy technologies generally progress on established learning curves where refinements to a technology and the economies of scale that accrue as manufacturing and distribution develop drive improvements to the cost/performance metric in a gradual fashion. This continual improvement of a technology is important to its increased commercial deployment and is appropriately the focus of the private sector or the applied technology offices within DOE. In contrast, ARPA-E supports transformative research that has the potential to create fundamentally new learning curves. ARPA-E technology projects typically start with cost/performance estimates well above the level of an incumbent technology. Program Overview: The Technologies to Emend and Obviate Synthetic Nitrogens Toll on Emissions (TEOSYNTE) program aims to lower nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from the cultivation of corn and sorghum used for United States (U.S.) ethanol production by 50%. The program will emphasize plant and microbial bio-design strategies that lower the application of synthetic nitrogen (N) fertilizer on corn and sorghum fields while maintaining crop yields and reducing 50% of N2O emissions. Lowering the requirements of synthetic N fertilizer will also lower costs to farmers, as the cost of fertilizer is a significant portion of the operating expenses of a farm. This program will enable technologies to reduce N fertilizer consumption and N2O emissions. These technologies will transform agriculture and lower the N2O contribution to the carbon intensity of ethanol produced today for light duty vehicles and in the future for sustainable aviation fuel. Technologies developed under the TEOSYNTE program must achieve specific targets as outlined in Section I.E. in order to meet the programs objectives to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and N fertilizer usage over multiple seasons while maintaining crop yields. The U.S. Embassy Djibouti is pleased to announce that funding is available for reforestation efforts in Djibouti City. This notice of funding opportunity outlines the procedures for submitting requests for funding. Please carefully follow all instructions below. Purpose of the Grant: U.S. Embassy Djibouti invites proposals from local organizations to combat climate change and urban heat in Djibouti City through reforestation and sustainable landscaping. Djibouti is one of the hottest countries on the planet and increasingly vulnerable to climate change. Djibouti has suffered from chronic drought, which has worsened over the years due to climate change. Average annual temperatures oscillate between 23C and 40C but can easily reach 50C during the months of June, July, and August. Djibouti is a highly urbanized country with more than 70 percent of the population living in the capital city, Djibouti City. In the capital, the level of sunshine and temperatures remain well above the national average. The effects of climate change coupled with rapid urbanization have contributed to the destruction of vegetation cover in Djibouti City. Reforestation has been proven to reduce the mean temperature in cities by 0.4C. Climate change, rapid urbanization, deforestation, and aging and inadequate drainage infrastructure has increased the risk of severe flooding when it does rain. The variability and intensity of rainfall, combined with urbanization, increase the risk of flooding. In April 2024, severe flooding from a few hours of rain trapped communities and destroyed roads and bridges in the city. The Mayor of Djibouti has set a Green City vision. Part of this effort is to increase reforestation, climate smart practices, and reduce urban heat. This project will support sustainable reforestation efforts in Djibouti City. Priority Program Areas: Funding will support proposals that directly respond to extreme heat and climate response efforts in Djibouti City. As the effects of climate change push rural communities to the city, the city needs to adapt and mitigate the effects of extreme heat. This project will advance broader climate change mitigation efforts being led by the Government of Djibouti. The projects key objectives are to: Provide training on sustainable landscaping and tree placement to mitigate urban flooding and extreme heat. Increase reforestation in Djibouti City through planting trees. Participants and Audiences: Embassy Djibouti will consider the full range and diversity of Djibouti and U.S. organizations. Authorizing legislation, type and year of funding: The source of funding is FY 2023 Economic Support Funds (ESF) to support small-scale grants for climate adaptation and sustainable landscapes in host countries.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONThe U.S. Embassy Gaborone of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program which will create a country-wide polling exercise and a comprehensive traditional and social media baseline survey, allowing for better insight into current issues related to the 2024 election process throughout Botswana. Program Objectives: This project will assess Botswanas political participation by addressing the lack of political polling and a media baseline survey. The project will carry out a series of polls throughout Botswana, allowing access to much-needed data on some of the major concerns affecting the election process including youth apathy, the lack of women in government positions, as well as gain insight into how the influence of foreign entities in traditional and social media has influenced voters opinions. The proposed project includes the following activities: Develop and execute a substantial polling initiative to take place in Botswanas largest youth population areas, including Gaborone, Maun, Francistown, Kasane, Palapye, Mahalapye, Serowe, Lobatse, Goodhope, Ghanzi, Jwaneng, Tsabong and Nata leading up to Botswanas national election in October 2024. Conduct a methodologically sound media baseline survey (inclusive of digital and social media) involving Batswana around the country representing different ages, religious, and cultural backgrounds. Provide a media baseline survey report on Batswana media consumption habits (inclusive of digital and social media), and which media outlets are the most influential to various demographics in various areas of the country. Publish a report at the conclusion of the grant outlining the work done to fulfill these objectives and provide statistical feedback on Batswanas views on issues of national importance that the Embassy has identified ahead of time.
