Missouri grants for County governments

Upward Momentum is a philanthropic initiative dedicated to increasing economic mobility for individuals and communities facing systemic barriers, starting with a focus on Missouri. The organization defines economic mobility as encompassing not just income and wealth but also the ability to achieve economic success, power, autonomy, and a sense of belonging regardless of race, gender, geography, or background. By fostering long-term investments and collaborative partnerships, Upward Momentum seeks to create transformative, generational change across urban and rural communities. The initiative is grounded in three core pillars: Caring for Our Families, which re-imagines support for family well-being and economic stability; Navigating Work, which provides comprehensive support for better engagement with labor market systems; and Bridging Divides, which encourages leaders and institutions to align efforts and tackle shared challenges collectively. Current projects include expanding childcare availability through Kids Win Missouri, supporting small entrepreneurs via the Missouri Women’s Business Center, and launching an open call for proposals aimed at bridging divides between rural and urban communities. Upward Momentum has allocated $2 million for its first open call, inviting nonprofit organizations across Missouri to submit proposals for innovative, community-driven initiatives. Each of the ten selected organizations will receive a $200,000 grant to amplify their work in fostering economic mobility. Proposals must demonstrate the ability to scale solutions that are effective in both rural and urban settings, creating lasting impacts that align with Upward Momentum’s mission of systemic change. The submission window opens on November 19, 2024, and proposals will be accepted until midnight on January 7, 2025. Selected organizations will be chosen based on published criteria emphasizing collaboration, impact, and sustainability.
